I called ahead to see if they were going to be busy for the weekend after Valentine's/payday. They let me know they were not going to be busy. It was the first time at Olive Garden for the kids (teens) and so we took some time ordering. Our server, Brooklyn, was very patient and kind. The boy ordered the Tour of Italy, the them ordered ravioli carbonara, and I stuck to chicken fettuccine alfredo. We also ordered the breadsticks with the five cheese marinara and the homemade alfredo. The breadsticks were a little salty for my taste, but the five cheese sauce? It was finger licking good! My chicken was surprisingly juicy and tender. I was surprised. The them was very happy with their ravioli. The boy complained about the burnt edges of the lasagna, but he's a texture guy and you can't expect uniform texture throughout. I will mention that we were seated at the very back of the restaurant, which usually doesn't bother me, however there were empty tables throughout and they put us in the back with the big party? Weird. And if I go the bathroom you know I'm going into full description mode. The stalls were roomy enough and there was no shortage of soap or paper towels in the dispensers. It was messier than I expected for how empty the restaurant was. There was water and trash on the floor. As a side note the changing table is on the way to the paper towel dispenser so if you're a mom changing your baby, you kinda feel like you're in the way. The bathroom door (not the stall one) is light enough for someone in a wheelchair to open one handed so that's nice. Speaking of which, there is a ramp to the front door and enough room on one side of the entrance for a wheelchair. You might have to go around the waiting couch to go to the bathroom once you're inside though. All in all an ok experience. We ordered one tiramisu for the three of us and it was enough. We had leftovers and took one dessert to go...
Read moreOrdered the entree-sized portion of the chicken gnocchi soup to go, along with the breadsticks + dip side. There were several things wrong with the order:
The portion size of the chicken gnocchi soup would be small even if it was intended for one serving, but the fact that it was supposed to represent two servings, as listed on the website, shocked me. To my best estimation, I received about 8 fl oz of soup for my "entree-sized" soup.
I realize that the chocolate candies served to each customer at the end of every meal is a generous gesture, which I appreciate, but could use a little more thought in this case. The chocolate pieces were thrown into the bag on top, and by virtue of the soup and breadsticks being hot, proceeded to melt onto each of the items in the bag. The breadsticks bag, Alfredo sauce cup and soup bowl each had sticky chocolate on a a good portion of the surface area.
Utensils were not included when I specifically checked the box on the website to include them.
Olive Garden is my favorite restaurant; you'll find me in their dining room two or three times a month. This, however, was enough to almost make me not want to go back. Perhaps it is only this location (I'm from Florida, visiting in PA), but I'm quite dissapointed in a meal that I was rather looking forward to. Not only was I given a very small portion of food, but having to wipe chocolate off my hands as I open a cup of Alfredo sauce isn't fun. I hope that this location can learn a few tips from my experience so that other to-go order customers don't experience...
Read moreThe Montgomeryville Olive Garden has been one of our favorite splurges for dining out for many years. We are not big spenders for food. So, this probably wouldn't count as fine dining to most but for us this is a place we go on special occasions or when they have decent discount promotions... like the never ending make your own pasta. The real treat for us is the free refills on soup, salad (with their trademark italian salad dressing), and breadsticks... and in our opinion the experience is not complete until you have have them grate parmesan on top of everything... yum. BTW they used to give you little chocolate mints by default and they do still have them but they only seem to give them out now upon request. Our server last time... Brooklyn... was such a delight. Now I didnt give 5s for food and atmosphere mostly because the design of their restaurants seems to amplify sound so when it is busy the volume level can be overwhelming and, like most places right now, the portion sizes are trending down while the prices are up... but coming at non peak hours and waiting for decent special promotions can minimize those effects... and the never ending soup, salad, and breadsticks pretty much cancels out those effects if you are dining in. We havent had the best luck when we order takeout... but we do like the occasional buy one meal in the restaurant and get one to heat up later promotion... which is on right now... just wish there were more choices.... but I guess certain foods lend themself to that better...
