So you might have heard that this place is rated the best pizza not just in CT but the entire US. Well they must have paid someone for that title because I've never seen a pizza competition. So naturally I have high expectations due to this self serving title. So first the atmosphere is what you think a pizza joint should be, sticky table and salt and pepper shaker so full of crust that nothing came out of them. Now on to the food. So when you have something that's titled world famous you think it's for the flavor but let me tell you. It's because they are giving you some cheese and what appears to be bread from the pits of Pompeii. That crust was so burnt, that it was basically petrified. A knife was no match for that pizza. They must have thought we were birds that needed rocks to help us digest the food. I needed to make an appointment with my dentist to make sure all my teeth were still intact and not what I was chewing on. So maybe the service is gonna be this places saving grace right. Well the server took our order came out with the drink, no problems so far. Well the pizza took 30 minutes to come out. I was so hungry that I wasn't anymore. It took 30 minutes to try to eat the cheese on top of rocks they served me. Then I'm here waiting for the server to come back so I can get my check and pay but she no where to be found, probably because she knew they messed up the pizza so bad so she was waiting for me to be too tired of being there to say anything, which worked because i just wanted to get out of there at that point. So we pack our things and ask for a bag and the hostess says no there no bag to hold the little box of left overs. I say let me get a bag, I'll make it work. So low and behold the bag fits the little box without issues. How does the worker not know if the box doesn't fit into the bag or not. There not that many bags and boxes there to not know if the small box will fit the only bag they have or not. So basically don't go here unless you wanna waste 2 hours of your night in hopes to forget you blew you entire check not to win the jackpot and gotta explain to your wife we gonna have Ramen for the next few days while your teeth and bank...
Read moreIf you’ve never had “New Haven” style pizza, remove the idea of “Neopolitana” style pizza from your expectations. New haven style is like a hard burnt cracker crust, not Neopolitana. Our waitress Emily F., asked us if we were ok with the typical New Haven “well done” crust. We had no idea what we were going to get, when we said yes. The ingredients tasted fresh although sparse, except for the basil, which was ample. Now we know. It was a new experience for us. The three stars is directly aimed at Emily. We arrived and the restaurant was busy, but there wasn’t a line and there were many empty tables. They squeezed us into the mix of other full tables and Emily came promptly and took our order, and then brought us water. About 10 min later our pizza arrived and Emily came to check on us immediately after. Then, she never came back to our table. We ate our pizza and waited patiently for Emily to realize we were done. We watched Emily check on every other table in our section, that was almost literally within an arms reach to our table, but never once did she turn her attention to us. After about 10-15 min, we began to stare at her to see if she would notice, but we also waited for another server or employee to pass by our table so that we could get our check. Because we were tucked into the back of the section, neither happened. Eventually she realized that she had never checked on us and then brought...
Read moreMy partner and I are customers from the local area and eat dine in on a semi regular basis. I checked the hours both on the website and on the google listing and it blankly stated 12 am for closing time, and the same also goes for the automated service that gives the hours. There was no difference for dine in or takeout listed. Much to my dismay we drove all the way from Groton to find out that the dining room was closed. We typically dine in because the portions of pizza for dine in vs takeout are fairly different, but with no other food options available we really didn’t have much of a choice. We went to order takeout and tried to order a large cheese pizza, and then I had wanted to order a salad which is not very complicated to assemble. The takeout representative told us immediately that they don’t make salads at that hour.
I would like to be able to leave a 5 star review because we really do enjoy the restaurant, however this experience has left a bad taste in my mouth. I feel like I can’t trust the communications from the restaurant regarding hours or whether food options are limited after certain hours. We ultimately made the decision to cancel our order because of the lack of consistency. Perhaps the location could update their hours, like some restaurants do, where they list take out vs dine in hours or specify that certain items of the menu are off limits after a...
