I will start with- I love Sift. Young Buns, Sift, I love so well. I visit the Mystic location when I can!
So when I heard about this place, I gave it some time before I popped over.
Today, I had that opportunity to come and visit in the AM!
Initially, I was delighted by how pretty everything was, and that hasn't changed. However, there was so much fun and laughing happening back behind the counter, there was some delay.
No biggee, I love watching what happens over on the kitchen side. I was impressed watching the woman with the black star in her chef's hat (I initially thought it was a cat silhouette in there, so I was kinda looking close) unrolling cake log after cake log, she was very neat. And then her nose began to itch, and I was horrified. She began rubbing her nose against her work sleeve, while standing over the freshly unwrapped pan of crumbs for the cakes. Watching her gloves make contact with her face as well during that, I felt a bit of ick.
I understand being human, but the joy it would have brought my soul to see her step away from the cakes to address her itches...
I got my goodies after some time, and I'm happy with what I got, but now that I've seen who might have been making them, there's a small % of doubt. I saw others wearing face masks at their stations and was delighted.
Also, and this is small- But your display case is gently melting those beautiful white Vivian's. I was considering getting one, but I knew it'd be a little before I could go home, and getting a pre-melted one felt like it just wouldn't be done justice by the time I got home. Maybe if they were scooted a bit further from the glass, or had some kind of shader for them. They were...
Read moreI was super excited to try this bakery! However, my experience was disappointing. I ordered almond croissant, chocolate chip cookie, Thai salad, 6 macarons, and iced chai.
Firstly, almond croissant was not delicious. Whipped cream sandwiched in the middle was flavored with almond essence, and it tasted bad. I wonder who came up with the recipe?
Chocolate chip was fine, but way too underbaked. Couldn't even hold it without it crumbling apart.
Thai salad was.. unique in a bad way. Napa cabbage?? Seriously? And red ginger as a main ingredient?? And those peanuts were soggy and disgusting. Also, they gave me way little dressing.
4 out of the 6 macarons I bought, the shells were hollow. And, underbaked. I was in Tokyo last month and enjoyed Pierre Hermé macarons there, so receiving underbaked, no foot, hollow macarons were upsetting.
Iced chai was yummy. I liked that the girl asked me if she could make the drink with whole milk. I originally ordered iced matcha, but they were out.
Service was...
Read moreWe went to Sift on Mother’s Day after having pizza at Pepe’s. The casino was super busy as it was the night of a concert in the arena and a holiday but Sift still had a full range of options for sweet and savory items. The line to order moved quickly and the staff were friendly and knowledgeable. My wait was quick and I was delivered my items in that lovely blue box in a timely manner. I always get the macaron framboise from the Mystic location and this one was just as perfect as every other time I’ve ordered it. The other items I ordered were also amazing, as always. I love this location as a local (Stonington) we actually visit Mohegan more frequently than we do downtown Mystic and I’m excited to try more items!! I can also highly recommend all the sandwiches. The fresh breads and filling combinations are sooo good. I highly recommend the Mediterranean Vegetable Sandwich and the Roast Beef Sandwich. Trust me...
