Each of us is born with the ability to uniquely influence others positively. For a group so young in age to influence us is a rarity.
We were transferred to Charlotte from Houston this past spring without our grown children and grandchildren. Surprisingly, my extended family from the Mooresville Hickory Tavern has made a difference in our lives by filling the void. This was a huge void to fill and ya’ll stepped up unexpectedly.
Andrew and all in the culinary staffing: You have prepared my meals to perfection, although I have indeed packed on an extra 15lbs to my frame.
Greg, This quick note is for the man who has been at the same location for 16 years, who knows where all the skeletons are hidden, and who is the least likely person to be called out for what he does without notice or recognition. You, my friend, are an incredible human being.
Taylor, for an evening of no nonsense, candid advice… we’ll turn to you first for a challenging conversation. Not an easy task given who we challenge you to become.
Chelsea, keep fighting your fight for you know who you are and who want to become. Keep fighting for you know who you are. Go find it, kid.
Natalie, to be personable is a trait that cannot be learned. Your gifts will be admired for generations to come and the admiration you display will be your legacy. You were born to be a mother.
JC, words cannot express how Erica and I feel about you. Your maturity is beyond your years. Trey is so lucky to have you as his bride. And Greg will forever be in love with you. haha! You are a special girl who deserves the best that life has to offer. You are a true leader.
Kelly Ann, your mother is original and she is the reason you are who you are.
Kaitlynn, you were our first positive influence and you still need a stool in which to relax.
For all the other staff that we didn’t mention specifically, we say thank you. For you are part of this dynamic group that we’ve called family for the past 4 months living in Mooresville.
You all have become a part of our extended family as we are away from Houston on business. You all have made us feel welcome in your community and for that we say thank you.
DC & E
PS… y’all will always be in our memories and...
Read moreThis restaurant is steadily declining. It gets worse each time, but this last time was our last time. We agreed that we would never eat at Hickory Tavern again. I don't even know where to start. The hostess that seated us was very nice. That's where my praises end.
The woman who was supposed to be our waitress walked by us twice and never said a word. She never said, "I'll be with you in a minute" or anything similar. She just walked by. When she came to the table, she was dry and obviously didn't want to be there...or maybe she just didn't want to serve us, but I watched her interaction with the other table and it really wasn't much different.
I ordered an appetizer and told her she could go ahead and place it so that it would come to the table ahead of our entrees. It came out with the dinner. I would've inquired about, but the next time she came to the table was to bring the food. I think we may have seen her a total of two more times. The rest of the time she spent chit chatting with her coworkers at the front.
The food I ordered had no taste to it. In fact, when I removed the black bean burger, it tasted slightly better but still unappealing. The manager came by at one point, after also walking by several times with little to no interaction, and caught me mid-chew. She did ask if everything was good and as soon as I started to tell her about that tasteless burger, she hurried and walked away. That was a clear sign she was purposely avoiding hearing feedback. When the waitress finally returned, I told her about it. No lie, this lady hunched her shoulders as if to say, "Oh well. Tough." She went back to the front...surprise, surprise...and told the manager who looked over her shoulder at where we were sitting and gave a look of displeasure. The waitress came back and said, "We've taken off half for the burger." I didn't even eat half of it. All of the burger, minus a bite, was on the side of the plate.
I will not be going back to Hickory Tavern again. If you are in the area and need a decent restaurant, go to one of the other ones. Make this one your last,...
Read moreWe have been here a few times before and had a good dinner and good service. This time was just ok. Ordered nachos and got those after 45 mins, then the 2 beers we ordered showed up. 2 minutes later our food showed up luke warm. When the server checked back we ordered 2 more beers, they came as we were finishing our dinner. Asked for the check. Both of my beers were rung up incorrectly for $5 more than the advertised Oktoberfest special. I spoke to the manager and he was very gracious and apologetic. He took the bill and reduced it by half which I thought was very fair but after we were done eating a waiter or manager visited our table 3 times and not one dish or cup was removed from the table. Again, we have had great service and good food here before, tonight was an off night for them for sure. :::::::::: UPDATE The following Monday after this post the DM reached out to me to go over our experience. He was very understanding and apologetic. He expressed that this is normally a great location. He sent us a gift cert to return as his guests to give them another try. We certainly will be back and I will gladly update the photo when we do go back, hopefully with a better experience. Thank you to the management who have been more than kind trying to rectify a bad experience. ::::: UPDATE My son and I came back last night for another try. Sat outside again and had a much better experience. MaCayla was our server and she did a great job, cleared plates and empty drinks properly. Drinks and food were delivered quickly. I had fish n chips and my son had chicken tenders. We had the nachos supreme small order and it was layered like it is supposed to be and hot. Fish had same tempura batter breading as chicken which is a little weird but delicious. Would prefer beer batter on fish, personal preference. Thank you for inviting us back, we will...
