There is nothing farm to table about this at all. More like freezer to table. Do you think sirloin tips sauteed with button mushroom sounds good? You will be very disappointed because it's chewy, it is enveloped in oregano, and you have a couple chopped slices of mushroom but there's no buttons in sight and you have to hunt for the mushroom to see that it's there. Had to hide it in steak sauce to attempt to choke it down and the steak sauce had been mixed with water and was not even as thick as soup. The fried chicken sounds good because it talks about how it is marinated in buttermilk for hours to make it juicy. It is not juicy at all, lacks any seasoning, and it tastes like it's old and has been in the freezer for quite a while before they decided to give it to you. The mashed potatoes taste like they mixed real potatoes with flaked potatoes & it's the consistency of craft paste. The gravy on the potatoes is out of a jar. The macaroni and cheese is edible but tastes like it has cheese whiz in it and not much for real cheese. The green beans were okay and their yeast rolls were good, obviously cooked for me frozen roll, but still good.I ate here because of what their webpage said, farm to table is known to be some of the best eating. I was very disappointed to see that it was all lies. Did you know that they think that Southern fried squash means that you heavily batter it and deep fry it? Don't they know that Southern fried squash is salted in a pan with onions? I almost got today's special and they were kind enough to let me check it out before I ordered it, it was chicken and dumplings. Their idea of chicken and dumplings is to use a flat wide egg tight noodle and diced up chicken and coated in a jarred chicken gravy. Save yourself and go to Cracker Barrel! I almost forgot to say that when I was seated they had me step over pans of water to get to my seat because the roof was laking. The roof was only leaking in one spot and instead of seating people on the dry side of the restaurant they made people step over the containers of water to get to their seats. The bright part of my visit was the excellent wait staff. The gentleman that waited on me was so kind that he did get a big tip even though the food was inedible. In looking at the website I saw some good looking desserts, such as cake, I was very disappointed to find that the only thing they had to offer was putting. The pudding was classic Nugget brand pudding out of a can and was topped with whip cream and a sprinkling of crushed oreos. The waiter was the only thing positive about the whole place. In looking at recent ratings the 5 star ones appear to be generated to try to keep the lower star ratings up. The 5 star ratings have no comments whatsoever which leads me to believe that they have nothing good to say. I now know to avoid this restaurant during my travel trips to the area,...
Read moreMy family and I just left this restaurant and we will NEVER return. Our order contained 2 Cheerwines, sweet tea, water, Carolina burger + pickles, salt and pepper catfish, Alfredo and broccoli and cheese soup.
The drinks were brought out, my husbands tea was unsweet. Our waitress was incognito after our drinks came out. She brought food out to the table behind us and I stopped her to let her know the tea wasn’t right. She said she would fix it and about 15-20 minutes later she finally got it to our table.
Our food came out, the catfish was lightly seasoned not salt and pepper and the pickles were missing from the burger. No big deal, it was fixable. I let the waitress know what was wrong and explained to her that I ordered salt and pepper which is fried and that we needed pickles for the burger. She said she would get it fixed, no biggie.
When the corrected fish came out, it was one piece. I questioned it, because the first plate had two pieces and I was planning on having leftovers for the next day. She said she would go back and have them fix it again. I told her to just forget it, take it back, take it off the bill and that I would rather eat somewhere else. While saying everything I stacked the plates for her to take it back. When I was done talking, she asked if I wanted the manager. Yes, that would be great.
The “manager” who was barely older than my daughter, came out, “heard” what the issue was. Then proceeded to tell me that “she didn’t hear everything that was said, but she wasn’t going to let anyone talked to her servers the way I was talking to her” “this time she would take care of the bill” and that “her server was in the back crying.” I was so shocked to hear anyone speak to a customer the way that she was. In fact as my husband stood up and said “he wasn’t paying for it anyways” the “manager” started snickering and walked away.
If I am in the wrong I would definitely take responsibility for my faults, however in this situation I wasn’t wrong. My family had already finished their food and I was going to have to wait for my food to be corrected for a second time. In fact, as we were leaving, a larger group sitting in our section expressed that they would have reacted and done exactly what we did.
We didn’t need our bill taken care of “this one time” all I needed was for this to be a training experience. Instead I was talked down to by the “manager” and only had some hush puppies and nasty fries. Please teach your staff to check the orders before they leave the kitchen. If they aren’t sure what someone is ordering, encourage them to...
Read moreI remember this place when it was Lone Star. And I remember it when it was a "Family Kitchen." It has changed hands several times, so the atmosphere is generally the same. Its presented as a traditional southern country kitchen and the food reflects it.
The menu is expansive and has many options. There's something for everyone here just like what a southerner would expect at their grandma's house. After looking over the menu, my eye caught the "famous" dishes. I know this is a marketing ploy, but still must have some legitimate basis, so I decided on the beef tips. The sides are many and remind me of a trip to Cracker Barrel. I opted for the "famous" white slaw and the fried squash.
The meal arrived within a very reasonable time and was well prepared. I ordered the tips medium and they were perfectly cooked, well seasoned and portion size was excellent. The squash was segmented, but this was fine as the breading, seasoning and texture was spot on. The "famous" slaw was sweet. Almost too sweet. Just my opinion here, but a bit of sour (vinegar) and some black pepper would have made it much better. The cornbread muffin was warm, fluffy and would pair very well with a bowl of pintos. I would even crumble them onto a bowl of milk and be satisfied.
Service was prompt, professional, courteous, and attentive. Well done.
Prices were reasonable given the portions and quantity.
Overall, I would definitely recommend and would enjoy a return trip to try something different.
