The Colonial Grill — Restaurant in Morristown

It was a pretty cool Saturday when my girl decided to stop by a food truck she'd been seeing all over TikTok. Naturally, we arrive, and there is a pretty significant line (significant to me, at least). I made a fuss about lines and how I hate waiting on them and that we should just leave because I'm a damn baby, face it.

BOY, OH BOY, I'M GLAD SHE IS IN CHARGE IN OUR RELATIONSHIP. The line did, in fact, move pretty fast. Before we knew it, we were receiving ours. I estimate that the entire process took approximately 20-25 minutes.

The owner was giving out free samples to folks waiting in line, and I truly appreciated that. He's an incredibly nice dude who was cracking jokes and conversing with the people waiting for their food. You can tell he genuinely enjoys his food truck and is appreciative of his employees and customers.

The fries, steak, and chicken combo were PHENOMENAL. I mean, wth is better than steak and fries?? The crazy thing is that sometimes people can/DO mess that up. NOT these folks, though! The garlic sauce and spicy sauce they add on top (generous portions, by the way) are top-tier. I believe they sell them by the bottle, which I regret not having grabbed.

I'd be remiss if I didn't add that the owner asked if we wanted drinks and politely declined since we'd water in the car, but he insisted we try these sodas (pictured below) and gave them to us for free. As I mentioned, unequivocally a good guy who just seemed happy to be working — I can always respect that.

Holy smokes, I've seen this place on TikTok and Instagram, and I've always wanted to try it. Usually see it with lines that wrap around the block or at least the town Square located in Morristown New Jersey.

I got there at about 5:30 in the evening to grab a dinner and the crew that was working in the food truck were well choreographed. I learned that this is a family business run by a father and son and you always see on their social media feed giving out samples of their fries with their chimichurri sauce and their garlic truffle sauce. I'm here to tell you this is one of the best meals I've ever had, let alone from a food truck. The combination of these two sauces are unbelievable.

I put myself in the capable hands of the young man at the counter, who made me steak over a bed of fries, a staple often featured as part of their feed, and a cheeseburger with fries and chimichurri sauce on them. I couldn't get over how good they were. Cheeseburgers are my absolute pig out food and this was definitely a top five burger for me. Ever.

As I got my food, there was definitely a larger line forming as the dinnertime crowd came ambling up from the town Square where the food truck is parked. It was a beautiful October night and I was able to sit on a bench right near the truck and eat my food. Needless to say there was a lot left over and I brought it back to the hotel room with me.

The Colonial Grill is truly a hidden gem! From the moment I walked up to the truck, I could tell this was going to be special. The staff were passionate, caring, and clearly proud of their craft—which came through in every bite.The fresh-cut fries were out of this world—crispy, golden, and paired with their incredible signature garlic sauce that I’m still thinking about. They were even kind enough to offer a free sample, which immediately hooked me. I ordered the plantain burger with sweet pineapple sauce, and it was absolutely phenomenal. The balance of savory, smoky, and sweet flavors was spot-on, and the burger itself was juicy, tender, and perfectly marinated. Every bite was bursting with flavor. The portions were huge—definitely enough to satisfy a big appetite—and everything was very reasonably priced considering the quality and freshness. What impressed me most is how clean and organized the truck was, and how everything on the menu is made fresh. Their wide selection of burgers, gyros, and cheesesteaks means there’s something for everyone—and everything is packed with the best seasoning and flavor.
