While out running errands, I found myself craving something sweet and decided to try rolled ice cream from Gong Cha, situated in a bustling small shopping area alongside a heavily trafficked street. I anticipated a bit of a hassle exiting due to the traffic, and my prediction was spot on.
The service experience started on a lukewarm note; the cashier who took my order was not particularly friendly, lacking the warmth you'd hope for in a place selling sweet treats. However, watching another worker skillfully mix, flatten, and roll the ice cream added a unique touch to the experience, making up somewhat for the initial service hiccup.
The rolled ice cream itself was just okay for my taste. Interestingly, I found it more enjoyable as it began to melt, revealing its flavors more fully as it transitioned towards the texture of traditional ice cream. Although I'm glad to have satisfied my curiosity and experienced rolled ice cream, I think I'll stick to my usual ice cream preferences in the future. This is the only place in the south side that I know of, apart from Sweet Rolled Tacos in Stockbridge, that offers rolled ice cream. And I personally think Kremo is better than Sweet Rolled Tacos.
