I've been staying at Choice Hotels for many, many years. I've always reserved my room online or by phone, and then been asked upon arrival if I would be using the card on file or a different one. The clerk (Mike) in the evening called me before I even arrived to inform me that my card was declined, and demanded that I give a different card number over the phone or risk losing my room.
[I was in the middle of cooking dinner for 4 generations at my youngest daughter's apartment. I had already stopped at the hotel property on our way through before lunch, and had informed the desk clerk (wonderful person! - Cordelia) that we might be late arriving (perhaps around 10pm). There was no way to get our room in the morning, as it was too early in the day, and no rooms were yet available, which was fine.]
I stated to Mike that I was not comfortable with giving my card information to him over the phone. He repeatedly said that sometimes people register a room but don't show up. I told him that we had already been on the property that day, and that Cordelia had put notes in the computer about our arrival later on in the evening. I also told him that my room was to be available until 7am the following day, according to the reservation information, and that we definitely would be arriving later on - perhaps around 10pm.
I told him that I had 6 people who needed to stay in that room, and that I would have my credit card information available when we arrived.
He stated that he left at 11pm, and that if we wouldn't be arriving by then, we could risk losing our room. I told him I would call if we would be later than 10pm. However, the phone service was not working by the time I called (both the main desk number and the number he had called me on weren't working due to inclement weather.) I tried to call numerous times. It was fairly nerve-wracking to wonder if he was re-selling our room on the 30 minute drive in the rain with grandchildren and my elderly mother riding with us.
We arrived around 10:30. Another person had been waiting at the front desk for several minutes when we arrived. Mike finally made his way to the desk. I made sure he helped their family first. Our room was still available, so I gave him the correct credit card, and registered.
Mike was also very abrupt at the desk when I needed linens. (We had a room for 6 people. There were 3 bath towels, 2 hand towels and a couple washcloths in the room) We also needed linens for the hide-a-bed couch. He gave me 2 fitted sheets (no top sheet) and a blanket, and was very rude when I tried to politely tell him which towels we would need. Thank goodness, he was gone and someone else was able to help me get what I needed when I had to go back down yet again to get the correct sheets and the towels we still needed.
I am a very patient person, yet he acted as though I was the problem. I have never, in all my dealings with Choice Hotels, had a person like that at the front desk. My husband and I were very frustrated with his lack of customer service and any sort of decency or manners. We decided that we would probably never stay at that location again.
I will say that Cordelia (the morning desk clerk) was a completely wonderful and courteous person! She was very helpful and kind. The person setting up the breakfast was excellent. The people putting in the new carpet were very efficient and skilled, as well as kind and thoughtful (especially when we needed to get my mother through with her wheelchair). And the new carpet looks great!
So there were redeeming factors. But if Mike was the only person I had dealings with there, I would absolutely never, ever stay...
My family and I stayed at this location Friday, 6-15-24,through Sunday 6-17-2024. We were very late checking in but i called hours in advance to know that our ETA was around 3 a.m. Upon checking in i should have known to super check our room after the lady at the desk made the point to state that if ANYTHING was wrong with the room to let them know... Like i said it was super late so we all crashed as soon as we got to our room. We left the next morning around 10 a.m. to get to the water park and did not return until around midnight. The next morning (Sunday) we ate breakfast and started to get ready for checkout. THATS when we noticed the issue. ROACHES!!!! We killed 3 roaches will packing up. My husband went downstairs to talk to the front desk and PHISICALLY handed her the 3 dead roaches we had killed. While he was downstairs handling that my 9yo daughter and i were still upstairs making sure we got everything. As my daugter went to grab her stuff there was a roach on her pillow!!! She freaked out!!! I killed the roach and picked it up with some tissue. Houskeeping was down the hall so i took it to show her. She took a picture of it on HER PHONE and told me to go downstairs and talk to the front desk.... i did. I handed her the roach and she threw it in the garbage can under her desk. I was told that they would talk to the gm and get back with me. That was it! I tried asking what would be done, but she just kept stating she had to talk to her manager. (obviously he wasnt there) Im upset at how they brushed it off! I booked through priceline so i called them when we left. Priceline reached out and was told that the gm would reach out to me the next day (Monday June 18th). I never received the phone call. I reached out again to priceline Wednesday. They still did not have a response. As of this point neither priceline nor myself have been able to speak with the GM personally, we just getting relayed responses from the front desk clerk. I wonder how many other families have now been in that room and the hotel is aware of the roaches!!!!! So just a heads up, i would not reccomend this location or at minimum room 323 or you too will be sleeping...
Read moreI know our issues were not the staffs fault. The staff were great, especially the breakfast attendant! She was on top of it and has an awesome personality! (That's why the service is 4 stars) Now the other stuff. It was $320 for 2 nights. They also have a $100 deposit. (Found out about this at check in) You can pay cash and get it back when you leave or put it on your card, and it takes 3-5 days, after check out, to get it back. We used a different card than what we have on our Choice rewards account, and they charged both accounts. The card we have attached to our Choice rewards account was charged $176. They couldn't tell us what it was for, either. (FYI: They also charge a $25 fee if you want to check in early.) We were there for the Atlanta Nascar race weekend. We had 4 adults and 2 kids in a suite. The room was clean and looked nice. The beds were so-so comfort wise. The desk clerk gave us the bedding for the pull out couch. When we opened up the bed, it was broken and had no mattress. Went to the desk, and they said they knew it was broken, but they'd fix it. LOL The fix was bringing us the mattress. Our grandkids slept on the mattress on the floor. We couldn't even get the bed to go back into the couch. The bathroom came with 4 towels, 2 hand towels, and 4 washclothes. To get extra anything, you had to exchange them. 🤷♀️ Smh Found out this morning that they have different hours for breakfast on the weekends and week days. It isn't posted anywhere. It said 7-10 on our key card holder, but it is 7-9 on weekdays. They do have IHOP and Cracker Barrel in the parking lot. The breakfast they serve is a nice selection, though. Now, we're waiting to see if the $176 comes back into our account. The desk clerk said the only thing showing on her computer...
