Today was certainly my last time patronizing this business. After years of visiting the store, the owner has been oddly dismissive and today going as far as being derogatory.
During my first visit (~2 years ago) the owner was friendly and told me all about his journey to owning his own store, talked about his recent moves, asked me to follow his IG to promote business (I did.) and even went as far as to pin my new jewelry on for me.
Since then I regularly visit the store whenever I’m in search of something that warrants a pawn shop visit and the rest of the staff has been phenomenal! I don’t always find what I’m looking for, but the things I have found were just what I needed. I live ~20 miles from the store, so I’m not coming in everyday, but I always come here first because I believe in showing loyalty to great service, not just price!
Fast forward to today and I mentioned to the owner that he never remembers me because again, his demeanor was unnecessarily rude. To which he pops off about only being about the money, even after another customer jumps in to try to lighten the mood because things were awkward…
Then he says, “see how black woman act” as if to reduce me in front of others when in fact my whole point was based on general business sense, not my skin tone. Considering the fact that I spent thousands on a single bracelet during my first visit, I’m confused how that equates to rejecting a repeat customer. But nevertheless, it’s a blessing to know my business isn’t wanted! ✌🏽
Edit: the business responds 9 MONTHS later with a backhanded apology after this review has received numerous reactions… 🤣 mind you, their initial reaction was a prayer...
Read moreI did a drive-by yesterday just for a ring fitting - not to buy. I chose Southland Pawn and I'm glad I did. The owners were exceptionally nice, helpful and informed. They gave great vibes and have a great concern for serving the community - as Whole. I can personally say I'm extremely elated to see Afro-American businesses surfacing once again. At one time it appeared we had become extinct and I understand why. I com to know, any businesses owner can make for a bad day but I believe in resolve on all levels. When those levels run out then it's straight to the law w/o haste. Let's get out and support one another as a community - period. So far, these are some of the nicest individuals (genuinely) I've come across in a long time - in...
Read moreMake sure you understand what you have before you take it in there because if they don't know what you have they won't even bother looking it up. Tried to stay local but since they didn't know what a particular tool was and what I was asking for seemed a little too high for them he told me he wasn't interested without even looking at the item. I would think asking $800 on a $2,000 tool isn't that high but who am...
