I really wanted to give this place a glowing review unfortunately that's not what I experienced. Upon entering it seemed to have an old time 60's era feel. There were several people sitting at tables and of course the lunch counter. Between the conversations and the rattle of dishes and typical kitchen noises it was a bit loud but hey that's the atmosphere you'd expect in a 60's era cafe. My issue started when my coffee arrived and my wife tipped me off that there was something on the rim of my cup. I turned the cup around to find Thelma Lou's lipstick, I informed the server that there was something on my cup and asked for a new one. She apologized and immediately went to get me a clean one. Problem solved right? Not exactly! My wife watched her looking for a clean cup and said she had to look at four to find one that was clean, she brought my new cup of coffee and all was well until I drank it down and noticed a ring stain in the bottom where it had been left sit with coffee in it. I told myself that it was a permanent stain and didn't get a refill. My food was okay but nothing to write home about and the tenderloin and gravy were barely warm while my eggs were hot. I also noticed that the floor of the place looked dirty so the best I can do for good ole...
Read moreI would say overall I would give this place 5 🌟. Had breakfast and lunch there. Breakfast was really good, only thing is apples didn't have a lot of flavor but everything else was excellent. Service during breakfast was a bare minimum. Waitress only served us, never ask if needed anything else or even a drink refill- spent all her time talking to a local guy. Now... lunch was exceptional! Got meatloaf and mashed potatoes and deviled eggs with roll. Husband got a hamburger and fries. Meatloaf was delicious! Mashed potatoes and deviled eggs homemade also and were delicious as well. My husband enjoyed the hamburger also. The waitress was 100% on point and so deserved her kudos- that she was so attentive and very friendly and made sure we didn't need anything Fabulous waitress!! I would go there again but if got the same morning waitress I believe I would just have to ask for someone that was going to give service to others not just one guy. O- and they have a map on the wall where you can pun it from where you are visiting from, I thought was...
Read moreStopped in to this quaint place for a quick lunch. Mt Airy is the inspiration for the Mayberry TV show. Deputy Barney Fife was my favorite character from the show so I got the Barney burger special and it was special. I doubt if the hamburger was ever frozen. It reminded me of the hamburgers my mom used to make. Formed into patties by hand and cooked just right. A true sandwich artist made my lunch. The 2 patties were cooked to perfection and placed on the bun. 2 crispy pieces of bacon were halved and placed on the burgers. Not thrown on, but placed side by side so you got a taste of bacon in every bite. The other half of the bun was perfectly layered with tomato, lettuce, and mayonaise. This told me someone took pride in their job and I was the one awarded a perfect burger because of their dedication. The fries were just out of the fryer and piping hot and tasty. I was too full for dessert but the menu did have many selections including fry pies. I'll definitely will be back again next time I'm ...
