Shikora Express — Restaurant in Mount Airy

I went here for the first time today and I did not have a pleasant experience. I ordered chicken with steak and noodles instead of rice. I got my noodles but there were no carrots, which I was told would be included. However, I did get the extra sauce I asked for. When I came in to pick up my order there was a line so naturally I got in line. I was in a rush because I was on my lunch break from work. Well after about 5/10 mins I figured out I was in the wrong line. There was a line for people who had paid and people who still needed to pay. I paid for my food which was almost 20.00. How? Im still not sure because I didnt even order a drink. The sauce had leaked out all in the bag. The steak and noodles tasted fine but the chicken wasnt edible. First off, this is not an authentic Japanese place. It’s kinda like going to Taco Bell and expecting authentic Mexican tacos hahaha, it’s a very Americanized Japanese place, but the food is decent and fast, and I think fairly priced. Went with my husband last night, $22 for two plates and two drinks, but they give such a large portion that it’s like 2 plates for one. One plate is easily 2 meals, which makes a serving about $5, which is cheaper than most other fast food places. Food is mostly consistent, sometimes better than other times. The chicken is almost always dry though so their white sauce is a necessity. The staff is friendly. For a cheap meal that goes a long way, get the chicken rice and carrots meal with white sauce. I used to love Shikora and recommended it to everyone, but unfortunately, it’s just not what it used to be. The prices are shockingly high for an express, in-and-out style restaurant—comparable to Arigato, but without the quality or experience to back it up. And unlike other Japanese grills, there’s no salad or soup included.
