I wandered out to Mount Dora one day, for an excellent outdoor local art festival, and I saw this restaurant that I had been hearing good things about for years. I asked them and they didn't really have a wait around 3PM, so I thought to myself, it is time. I get out of the sweltering sun, and seated in the neato bar area, and get to work. I wanted an app, but I didn't want to get anything too big, so I saw Tiffany's Handmade Yeast Rolls (with Whipped Florida Sugar Cane Butter & Maldon Sea Salt), and knew it was the app for me. Oh so soft. A fluffy roll, fluffier than a Hawaiian, for that really zingy butter. Sweet and salty at the same time. A really impressive app. The mains I ate I cannot find on the online menu of the restaurant anymore, which is a good thing. Seasonal menus don't keep things the same for very long. That's another level of wanting to try and put your best restaurant foot forward. So while you can't order it right now, I got the Wood-Grilled Tilefish Collar (with Charred Spring Vegetable Slaw & Fennel Pollen Tartar Sauce), and wow, it was fantastic. The big mess of a collar was so charred and so moist and juicy. Eating it off the bone like that makes you think that you're eating ribs. Solid showing; one of the best showings of seafood I've seen in Central Florida. I also got to try the Lake Meadow Naturals Fried Chicken (with Ben's Buttermilk Biscuit, Strawberry Hot Sauce & Asher Bleu). Very nicely fried, with a ton of seasoning in the breading. The crumbly biscuit held up well against the giant cutlet, and the hot sauce was very southern. It was hot and a little sweet, I was a fan. I hope they bring it back for other dishes in the future. Overall, there had been a lot of hype for me about this place for the past few years that I've known about it. And the hype was real. I recommend coming out here and trying it out. You don't be disappointed.

My wife and I loved 1921 on a date night. The food was all so fresh and exquisite. Big fans of the pimento and goat cheese hush puppies. The braised oxtail oyster was just amazing. I went with a NY strip steak and the butter potatoes. Beautifully cooked. My wife went with the butternut squash tagliatelle. She also loved it but said she wished it was more butternut squashy! Other than that, we had a very happy and attentive waitress named Bre and she was just so kind and helpful with suggestions. The prices were very on par with what I would expect for a nice date night style dinner. For the two of us (minus dessert because we did not have room) the bill came to about $100. The only reason I did not give five stars is because I felt that the seating was not very comfortable with there being very little back support for the chairs. A very small suggestion I would make would be to request a very easy dress code to elevate the space. I couldn’t help but notice people coming dressed up and then others showing up in board shorts and tank tops with sandals. However, I know it is hard to control this and I understand that there are mixed feelings about this. With there being a romantic vibe, low lighting, well dressed staff, and art on the walls, I think a dress code would go far to bring this space up to a more sophisticated notch. But nonetheless, other than these small details, we were absolutely blown away by this culinary experience and we will definitely be back for more. We will be recommending 1921 to family and friends! Thank you for a great evening.

I made a last minute reservation because i was in the area and a friend of mine told me that they had a wonderful experience when they went in. When i walked in the host was welcoming and friendly and i was sat right away. My waiter failed to introduce himself dropped off the menus , gave me a couple minutes to look over the menus. When he came back, i ordered the you're turning violet specialty cocktail, some raw and cooked oysters and the braised rabbit thigh dish and when the drink came and i tried it, it was super acidic so i put it to the side as it wasn't to my liking. I enjoyed the raw oysters over the cooked ones but that's just a taste reference. My rabbit dish was good except for the braised rabbit thigh being super dry so i ate the vegetables and the agnolotti pasta around it and left the rabbit thigh on the plat. Waiter came back and took the plate away and didn't even inquire as to why i didn't eat the rabbit thigh and still didn't touch my drink. He came back and ask if i wanted dessert and i ordered the cheesecake. He filled my water glass up and spilled water on the table and didn't bother to clean it up. I enjoyed the dessert and paid my bill and left. I really do think that the service could've been better. It's part of restaurant service to insure that the customer is enjoying their meal. Walk up to the table without introducing yourself and didn't inquire as to why i didn't drink the cocktail nor eat the rabbit thigh. On top of that spilling water on the table and not wipe it off.

Excellent service with exceptional food. The hostess and manager were at the door and greeted us promptly and were very welcoming. The tables are live edge wood tables with irregularities and fit the room well. It is definitely to be noted the space you have in this room. Tables aren’t stacked on top of each other. Our server was Rachel and she absolutely killed it all night long. We started with Shrimp and Grits and Pumpkin soup. The shrimp was perfectly cooked with an incredible red sauce around and tomatillo or something of the sort on top. It was a healthy portion and tasted as I had hoped. The pumpkin soup was a vegetarian option, and couldn’t have been more unexpectedly delicious. As an avid meat eater this dish was full of flavor and again, a healthy portion. Nice clean utensils brought between each course. Again with friendly service and banter. Our server was picking up on our vibe and we had a couple of good laughs. The dinner was a Vegetarian platter and the BBQ smoked quail. The quail was good. I prefer it to have a very crispy skin, but to each his own. The flavor was good. The vegetarian platter was good as well, but we asked for a sauce to add, the serve god is a garlic cream kinda sauce from the filet dish and it was incredible. We ended with the goat cheesecake and an apple cider and coffee opera cake. Dessert was awesome. Totally recommend the goat cheesecake! Definitely will be back. Great food experience!

I am a big foodie and love going out to eat with my wife. We have been going out a lot less the last few years due to the cost and having 3 kids. Today we decided to take an unexpected trip to Mt. Dora for our 10 year anniversary. We decided with it being a big celebration to try something a little more fancy than our usual fare. 1921 serves us the best meal we have ever had in our lives. We have had other high end food before but this was something uniquely special. The pork belly with aoli and kimchi was our first sign that we were going to have a fantastic night. Each item on the plate was amazing but the combination of the three created a beautiful, memorable and happy bite. For dinner we split the gumbo (extremely good) and the pork ribeye with farro. The pork ribeye might have been the best single dish I have ever tasted. It was perfectly cooked and seasoned and sauced in a near magical way. The farro (boring right?… wrong!) was fantastic, flavorful and blended so well switch the slightly sweet and smoky flavor of the pork ribeye. For desert we split an espresso martini with the white chocolate raspberry cheesecake which was also amazing. The staff was fantastic helping us not just get a reservation but also move it earlier when they had an opening and our waitress was extremely timely, helpful and a nice person to talk to. I literally can not say enough good about this restaurant. Go, go now you won’t regret it.

Update: the manager responded to my google review blatantly lying. He never told me I was charged only for my drink he didn’t even ask for my information when I called so he was only able to find that information AFTER I left the review with my name. He said I left 0$ tip on a $17 drink bill because we all collectively left a $100 tip on our total food bill. Photo attached for proof of this charge. I visited this restaurant yesterday with a group of 12 people. The entire bill was charged to one person’s card, and I only used my card to pay for one drink. Yet somehow, both of our cards were charged $400 each. When I called to get an explanation, I spoke to ADAM CRANE, the so-called manager, who claimed to be “as high as it gets” in terms of supervisors. Instead of addressing the issue, he refused to explain why I was charged and hung up on me when I pointed out how unprofessional he was being. Yes, a manager hung up on a customer with a legitimate concern. My colleague, who actually paid for the meal, later called and was told one card had been charged by accident. The waitress never informed us this mistake even happened. Between the lack of communication and a manager who clearly has no idea how to handle customer concerns, this place is a joke. Regretting our generous tip as ADAM lacks even basic professionalism.
