As a gluten intolerant person traveling all over the U.S the last two years it is always nice to find a restaurant that gets me. Not having to ask if they have a dedicated frier just to have some good fries. Which most of the time the answer is no. Not having to worry about if they have gluten free bread or whether they change there gloves before making my order. Whether there is cross contamination in the kitchen to worry about. No this restaurant is completely dedicated gluten free. 🤗🥳 There is no parking in front of the narrow one way street in front of the restaurant but makes it even more unforgettable. There is parking within walking distance though. 🚶♂️ As I come into the shop I immediately notice the unique wood carved stools and knew this place would be different. The shop might be small but it is diffently worth the stop. So much personality and the food is delicious leaving people not knowing everything is gluten free. Next I see to the right at the end of the bar style eating area a wine dispenser just like soda with different categories of wine. 🤗 Then to the left I see a bin with the word salt and sugar bar on it. ? I look closer and I realize it's not your average salt /sugar but special blends with salted chocolate, Himalayan ghost salt hot, and prebiotic ocean salt for examples. 😳 If all this peaks your interest wait for the food to come out. After looking at the menu I decided on the patty melt because places like to put wheat ingredients in them but nit here. Wahoo!. As you can see from the pictures 📷 the sandwich was stuffed full of tuna, cheese, and delicious ingredients and toasted bread. My taste buds were on overdrive savoring every morsel as I ate it. Then you can see the large amount of thick glistening french fries right next to the sandwich. The fries are cooked in canola oil which gives them a more flavorful taste in my opinion. In between each bite I enjoyed sipping on the orange cream soda from Virgil's that brings up childhood memories in Texas on a hot day in summer. Which I have to say the weather here was in the 80's while the rest of the country was getting ice, ❄ snow, and rolling blackouts, with road closers. So if you are looking for good weather with out of this world food visit Mount Dora, Florida. The small town surrounded by lakes and old Victorian homes charm has lots to offer in walking distance. I highly recommend this place so if you are in town or just passing by like myself give them a try you won't be disappointed. Tell them I sent you. Read moreWe were in Mt Dora during the holiday Monday following July 4th and upset because all of our regular restaurants we enjoy were closed. We decided to Google a new place in the hopes of finding a new treasure and were surprised when we saw a 4.9 out of 5 review for the salted fry. We had never seen or heard of this place before so decided to check it out.
This little hidden gem was tucked away just off of E 4th, we almost missed it the first time passing. A cute little storefront with some indoor and outdoor seating. I had the BLT and the seafood chowder. My wife went with the Gnomes delight (Ham sandwich, pictured below)
My only regret is that I didn't take a picture of mine before I wolfed it down and my wife was half way through hers before I processed how much this place was worthy of a 5 star review. But even though half eaten, I still thought it photo worthy :)
My BLT was the perfect portion size. In fact when paired with half an order of my wife's fries and half of the chowder I left absolutely stuffed. The bread on the BLT was soft and light, the vegetables fresh and crispy and the bacon cooked just right. The seafood chowder (which may be seasonal) was the perfect creaminess and spiced to perfection. Loaded with blue crab, crawfish, scallops and shrimp, they definitely didn't skimp on the good stuff.
As you can see by the photo, they packed the ham sandwich with quality meat. The bread was a perfect pairing and the star of the sandwich was definitely the maple bacon onion jam. Just enough to highlight the other flavors without over powering.
Lastly, if you are going to name your business after one of your dishes, it better be perfect, and their fries were just that. Crispy golden, crunchy with a soft inside, they do these right. You can tell that they pay attention to all the details; fresh clean oil, cut to the perfect size, fried for the right amount of time and dusted with just the right amount of salt.
I know this is long for your average Google review, but I feel it's worth it. You can tell the owners have a passion for good food. They provide delicious quality, fresh ingredients and put the effort into the execution that sperates a good sandwich from an excellent sandwich. I definitely understand after eating there why their Google rating is so high.
If you find yourself wandering Mt Dora, looking for a nice, satisfying lunch, then I highly recommend The Salted Fry. You won't be...

HOWEVER, if you’re going to charge people 10$ for a grilled cheese sandwich and fries I’d expect a little better for the price point. The burger bun was crumbly, and the burger itself VERY DRY. The chipotle in the kickin chipotle chicken club might as well have been orange mayonnaise cause the whole sandwich had no flavor at all. Do better with that sauce, or maybe rename the sandwich. Not only was there ZERO spice but again it was flavorless. Fries were good, thankfully if you called your restaurant after fries they should be good.
Service was minimal at best the girl taking orders was nice, BUT when the drinks we ordered were warm (bottled soda) and I requested a replacement, a young gentleman in a gray Canada sweatshirt responded with “you already opened it.” Rather than offering to fix the issue. As someone who also works in food, he should be trained on proper etiquette when dealing with customers in this kind of work. I let him know, the girl behind the counter actually opened the drink before it was even handed to us. And we discovered just how warm it was. At this he said “oh” popped him chewing gum in his teeth and the original girl who helped me continued by offering to replace it with a cold one.
If you want to keep customers, maybe not the best idea to have someone so young handing out food with gum in his mouth, and his phone in his free hand. It’s not a great look, and it’s a health...
