Pioneer Diner — Restaurant in Mount Pocono

Very nice staff and the reason for the 2 stars. However... There was no other patrons when we stopped to eat, it was rush hour so we thought people were trying to get home vs. stop to eat. The menu isn't as large as some other diners but seemed to have all the staples. We ordered the special, Fresh Roast pork with potato and veg..after a few mins...the server returned advising they only had 1 plate left. It was 4:30 pm so we didn't feel good about that but ordered a turkey dinner in it's place. We were given a choice of potato but not if veggies. We ordered salad in lieu of soup. Salad definitely was the bagged kind with the slivered carrots and red cabbage...it's evident as this bagged salad is in every supermarket and the lettuce is always dry as the carrots and cabbage are. Nothing else in the salad, but 1 small piece of cucumber...no tomatoes, olives or anything. The dressing was also store brand, not the good one either. When the dinner plates arrived, they were covered in gravy, there was basically no flavor to anything but gravy on both the pork and turkey They vegetables served where the canned VegAll with peas, carrots, Lima beans and string beans. No seasoning at all. Now...when you own a family restaurant you have to do something with the kids while you work and we totally understand but letting them run back and forth passed the only patrons in the place while coughing uncontrollably isn't the way to get people to come back. We heard both the server and who we assumed to be the owner tell the little girl to stop running but...neither one of them advised the child to cover her mouth when coughing all over the place. Clearly she was sick as one of them said they would have to get her some cough medicine. So, with subpar food and sick kids running around, coupled with the floor being mopped with bleach while we were eating? Probably not going to return. It does look like they just renovated a little trying to make it look like a little coffee house and that's nice but, that isn't going to keep anyone coming in. One of their tiny coffee mugs is for sale for $20!! Either they're new owners or they rely purely on the traffic in the busy intersection they're on. We can't see how they would have returning customers operating as they do currently. Best of luck...

Didnt get a chance to try food as our waitress was acting like a c word and we dont do disrespect. We arrive to what looks like a closed building; roofers performing work up top but cars still pulling in to park, so we continue to give it a try, dive places can be wins. We enter and after close to 2 mins i ask a bus boy, do we seat ourselves or wait and suddenly the apparent hostess chirps over from behind the sit down counter, 'wait to be seated'......okkkk when we walked in why not say ill be with you in a minute because theres no signage either to designate to wait. We sit begin to view the menu and i realize i need the restroom....well thats a fun one. Dont be on the bigger size or youll have to maneuver yourself to get thru, the doorways are NOT a modern standard opening. There are only 2 stalls and one was out of order. Also employees ALSO use this restroom. Annnnd per the photo you can see this bathroom hasnt prioerly cleaned in a VERYYYYYY LONGGGGGGGG TIME. So i finally get done there, leave to join my partner, i see our drinks arrived and he said "our waitresss will be right back once you come back from the bathroom"........after close to 20 minutes with just drinks, flapping the menus in hand ya know to accentuate no order has been taken since we still have menus, and constant lack of our waitress even looking at our table, i approach the hostess who apparently was also manager and ask for the bill for our 2 sodas. She asks what table were at, and sends the waitress over. She proceeds to try and take our order. I say "no thanks weve waited long enough"....."well im here i can take your order now".....(this is where the Kenzo philly in me begins to take over)..."yeah so we can wait another 20 minutes for food(and in my head thinking-spit in our food?), no thanks just the bill." In an aggressive manner begins to collect forks/napkins and says "you dont have to pay for them" THENNNNN tries to say to the manager to cover her own hiney, "i thought someone else took there order" so i turned back and said "what sense does that make? She took our drink order why would someone else take our food order?" Yeah honey were not the ones and i hope the restaurant sees this and fires her cuz customer service isnt her...

If there was an option to give 0 stars or a negative star I would. Therefore, I’m leaving a bad review so others are aware as well. I called to check status of seating, she gave us information about not being able to reserve over the phone but the wait can always change so we decided let’s just go because it’s the closest diner and the lady seemed friendly over the phone. Upon our arrival (two adults 3 kids (one required a high chair) she took my name and said it is 11:20am it will be a 15 minute wait and I will go out and call you at 11:35 when there’s seating available… we couldn’t wait inside. It was 11:40 my daughter had to use the bathroom so I went inside, the hostess was on the phone TAKING RESERVATIONS FOR 7 & the first thing she told me when she got off the phone was, “I still have no seating I will call you when I have seating available!” I told her okay but my daughter needs to use the bathroom and she just walked back to the kitchen and my husband and I noticed FIVE booths available for sitting… when I got out the bathroom, I asked her KINDLY if we can be seated at a booth. She said there was nothing available and couldn’t sit at a booth with a high chair. 12 minutes later, I took my other child to the bathroom and as I was in there, she sits my husband and kids at A BOOTH and gives a high chair. It took the server a long time to serve us. Now let’s talk about the food. First, we had to wait 32 minutes for simple food and it wasn’t even right the first 2 times so server had to tell the cook to cook again. The Mickey Mouse pancakes were just a big blob and it wasn’t even pancake mix it was more like cake mix because you couldn’t pick it up without it crumbling everywhere. My bagel and bacon were BURNT. I ordered scrambled eggs with American cheese and got sunny side up eggs with no cheese. The server kept coming back and forth and didn’t even offer refill or take out plates. I understand the place is busy, but no one should have to be given an attitude when other people with larger groups and got there after us got seated and served before us and didn’t get nasty attitudes.
