Having a family reunion in SF for three days Couldn't get to Chinatown, and have never had Dim Sum. It was a phenomenal first time experience. I really liked the fried shrimp balls, although there were shredded wonton paper flakes, which were yummy but sharp if taken in smaller bites. There was an overwhelming amount of food our party of 7, but we managed to finish almost everything. We had egg noodles and egg fried rice, which was the best rice dish I've ever eaten. My brother in law said that it was almost on par with Chinatown's Dim Sum, so I feel like if you're a tourist like us, and decided to cut Chinatown, then you should go here, definitely. They got us in and out quickly, and got us our food in now time at all.
Nice perks we recieved: Complimentary Jasmine Tea (drink it right away, it tastes better mild imo) Our waitress was smart and saved us a little bit of money, because she told us that having two plates of rice would probably be too much (which it was). We split the checks, so we got enough food for 7 American adults for roughly $25 per head, before tips. A much better service experience than the place we went to at Fisherman's wharf, which was twice the price. Good at explaining things to us newbies. Wonderful bathrooms.
My one complaint was that after we recieved all of our food, they left us alone, and I had to get a waitress' attention to get some water. The food was very rich, so I needed a bit of a top up. However, other than that, perfect service. If you cut Chinatown on your vacation, but want Dim Sum with nice, large...
Read moreFirst thing! The tea was very good. Considering it was a bag type, We order chrysanthemum tea. It was floral and fragrant. We had 5 dishes (that was all we take). Standard dishes: Stuffed eggplant; har gow; beef wrap in rice noodle; jook made with salted pork with 1000 yr old egg; braised chicken feet with squash. Our taste buds wave a "white flag" after the beef rice roll. Normally, we order about 8-9 dishes (left over to take home). Our dish was stuffed eggplant. looked promising. Eggplant was good. Shrimp stuffing were flavorless. I had just made stuffed jalapeno with shrimp paste last night for dinner and my were better. Next came the har gow. Mistake! triple thicken skin, mass ball of tough shrimp that lack any tones of digestible resemblance to a great dish, A great har gow should be thin and translucent, shrimp with bamboo and a big crunch. Braise chicken feet with a bed of squash. Different, the feet were fry perfectly. Did not have any distinguishing flavors. The squash were over cooked. Look like mash squash. Jook looks and tasted very homey. Thick and grainy with bits of 1000 yr egg. Had and made better. Not restaurant quality. Minced beef wrapped in rice noodle. Looks was deceiving. Rice wrap was about 1/8 inch thick ( we could not eat). My palate said stop! On a whim after visiting Ikea and before going to Walmart to pick up some garage door lube. We should not believe...
Read moreThis was an awesome dim sum restaurant! Came here for dinner, with some friends, around 9pm for when they started their dim sum service. Told my friend what kind of dim sum I liked, he ordered for us and our dim sum came out within about 10 min. Can't beat 3 orders of dim sum (4 pieces) for only $10!
Our dim sum kept flowing out and we were ready to dig in and start chowing down. The dim sum was delicious and fresh. Their taro balls, bbq pork bun, and the shrimp balls were my favorite. We all split the different orders and were all stuffed at the end. It was very satisfying and filling for only $10.
The only reason I knocked it down a star was because the service was maybe average at best. One of my friends wanted a fork, asked the waitress and she said she would get one for her in a minute. 5 minutes went by and she asked again, the waitress had a little attitude and said "One minute!" again. Then another few minutes went by and she finally got her fork.
In the end, the food was delicious, it is very affordable, and I will definitely want to make the trip here again. With the exception of the customer service, the food trumped it and would recommend people to try this dim...
