We had eaten at the sister restaurant in town a few days ago and had a fabulous expiernce there, so we decided to try Siam Talay Grille going for more of the same. Unfortunately we did not get that. The food was good, not as good as Siam in Telluride, but still decent. The service however was horrible. We were literally the only table in our area of the restaurant - they were completely dead, yet we received little attention. I especially was ignored most of the night. I was not given a water glass or silverware - I had to flag someone down to ask for it. Then the waiter brought out 7 appetizer plates for the 7 members of our party. He sat down 6, one in front of everyone else, looked at the table, and then left holding the last plate! I once again had to track down a server and ask for a plate. We had already ordered our entrees by then, at least 10 minutes earlier, but clearly they had not been given to the kitchen since he had to come back and ask questions about almost everyone's order, and no surprise, he was missing mine! Water glasses were constantly empty and we had to flag people down for water and for the rice that was supposed to come with our orders. The food was also all over-spiced despite our ask for it mild. Again, the place was still empty other than us. The real cherry on the top came when we asked to see dessert menus at the end. The waiter literally handed everyone a menu and then when it came to me he literally turned his back on me (menus still in hand) and walked away! I called him out for it and said I would have loved a dessert if I'd been given a menu. I did not even get a decent apology.
If the restaurant had been packed I might have understood, but considering that it was literally empty the service was unacceptable. Do not come here unless you want to be disrespected. There are much better places to eat in...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI wanted badly to like this place because it is conveniently located in Mountain Village where we are staying. There is a Thai restaurant down in the town of Telluride with higher ratings, but it is easier to convince my 15-year-old daughter to walk five minutes than to go to the bottom of the mountain. We made a reservation, but ended up waiting longer to be seated in the almost empty restaurant because they have to locate our reservation while we waited. Others who just walked in were seated immediately. On top of that, they decided to put us at the worst corner next to a large table with lots of children. We had to requested a move for them to give us a better, but totally available table.
But that is very minor compared to the fact that they lack the knowledge and ability to make the most basic of Thai cuisine, but priced at 2 X of other much better made Thai food. And then they decided to have a "modern Thai" section which I was dumb enough to try. I ordered the Panang Braised Short Rib. The Panang curry sauce was overly salty, thick, and generally bad tasting. The braised short rib was tough and dry. I have had better braised short ribs in a dinner. My daughter's Pad See Ew was liquidy, overly garlicky, and overly salty. We should have known when the waiter asked if she wanted it mild, medium, or hot - for a dish that is traditionally NOT spicy. The Thai ice tea we order was so overly sweet that even my daughter, who is a self admitted sugarholic found it too sweet to drink.
This restaurant needs to learn the basics before they try to get fancy. It completely missed the mark. So many better restaurants in Telluride that I see no reason one should go here. I assume this review will only be useful for perhaps one more season because I cannot see this restaurant lasting...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreFirst, let me say the mixed reviews online almost had us choose another option. But, this is the only asian food in the village so we decided to give it a shot.
Next, let me say Iāve had thai from many dozens of places all over the country. This was certainly in the top quartile. Very very good. Fresh, tasty, and high quality.
We had Wagyu Pad Kee Mao which was incredible. Hadnāt ever had that. We had shrimp and chicken pad thai which was excellent. The shrimp were huge and fresh. The chicken was organic meat.
I will definitely go back and try other options including the crispy duck and the elk tenderloin entrees.
The ONLY small knock is that they cook with sunflower seed oil. Theyād do themselves a solid by switching away from industrial seed oils (like many other restaurants are doing) to heart healthier options like ZeroAcre, coconut oil, ghee or tallow. Even palm oil would be a better option. For a restaurant that obviously cares about the quality of its ingredients, making a healthier change in the cooking oil just makes sense. Iād be happy to introduce ZeroAcre which I personally think makes the most sense for stir fry as it is a clean high temp oil that has a mellow neutral taste.
Iām very happy to have Siam Talay in the village and will...
