Oh Prohibition. My heart is so so divided on you. I've likely spent wellll over a thousand dollars here and brought in well over a thousand more dollars of business with friends over the past few years. Let's start from the best to worst:
Best: The servers/event mcs/performers, ambiance, and general quality of cocktails. I like to think myself cut from a similar alt cloth as these folks so it feels comfortable and they are all super nice and personable. Performers are having fun and repetitive moves/schtick feels fun camp. There was a time when I was a karaoke regular for that vibe. Service is usually solid. Ambiance is kitschy 1920s and they lean into the drama of it all. Drinks are honestly really well balanced in general but, per the norm, everything is sweet. Cigar and whiskey night is a fun dude night out.
Spotty: Service. Sometimes it's great and attentive and sometimes the server is nowhere to be found, or you see them talking amongst themselves, or they're way too slammed. This is both pre and post covid experience. I've never had anyone be rude though. They've all been really nice.
Worst: Food Quality and Prices. The food looks great , like everything here, but portions are mostly tiny, and taste ranges from pretty yum to ehhh, but never amazing. I've eaten a lot of the menu over time. For my birthday I had the most expensive thing on the menu, the Wagyu steak and was blown away with how awful it was. Charred, burnt, horrible mouth feel. Sides were crazy salty. I literally almost cried, as an adult birthday having man. If I'm paying $50 a plate and a $200 bill..the level of disappointment was immeasurable. I went back though. Because I wanted things be be different. It hasn't panned out. Again, portions on everything are very small. Prices have always been a little higher but over the past two years, I am now officially...officially..priced out. The food is not $20-30 per entree quality, the drinks are good...but not $15-16 good. The beer price has increased as well.
The gap between the value of the experience to the price is too far. I'm ok with expense for the experience. It's just this no longer fits here. There is better food close by. There are just as good and less expensive drinks downtown in cushy digs. The venue is what you're paying for. Price situation is all very ironic because I know from sources that performer pay has been a huge issue here in the past.
Maybe it's the fact I wanted this to be a fun comfortable regular spot, and it was for a long time, and they want it to be a fancy night out thing. Dunno.
It's no longer my regular Thursday or even semi regular spot after years. If you're solidly middle/upper middle class go have a good time. If you're looking for a fun themed spot for a once and awhile go have a good time. If you want to see pg burlesque and pretty darn skilled pole and airials on the weekend, go pay for that experience. Cigar and whiskey night I'll still attend once and awhile. Everything is great for Instagram.
I'd rate this 3 stars for how it fits into my world now but I'll give it 4 in case this is what...
Read moreI stopped by last week with a friend. I was really hungry and looking forward to the onion soup, same with my friend. We ordered drinks, I knew they were pricey but no prices on the menu. I ordered a $20 drink, on the recommendation of the of the waiter. First, the waiter put his hand on the water bottle he was going to serve water out of. After that, I didnât really want to drink his hand germs.OK was fine, until someone from the kitchen came out and put one onion soup on the table. Just one! Walked away??? Where is my soup? It wasnât really a busy time of day. It was 2 PM. The waiter seem to avoid us. OK I gotupset.. When the waiter finally came over, I just didnât really feel like staying there any longer. So I paid my expensive drink, and I didnât even get to drink it And left. Things they couldâve done better. First, not contaminate the water bottle Second make sure you take both orders from both people sitting there not just one. Third have the waiter come over with the food and make sure everythingâs OK. Not just someone from the kitchen, tossing a plate on the table. I gave the food a one because I never got to taste the food.
Updated review: The mark of a good company is how they handle negative feedback. Kelly reached out to me with a thoughtful response that demonstrated ownership of the issues. He asked if we could talk on the phone and spent time to gather as much information as possible to train the staff moving forward, ensuring I felt his commitment to doing so. He was passionate about training on the issues and clearly cares about the company. He invited me back for brunch to make it right. I complemented him on our conversation and told him that even based on our conversation solely I feel inclined to update my review because how he handled the situation. He told me it was not necessary, he just wanted to do the right thing. Brunch was awesome. The whole team was kind and mindful of good service practices. I was able to meet Kelly personally and he again took the time to genuinely connect. Drinks were thoughtfully curated. I had a phenomenally prepared steak and eggs. This dish had little touches to up the presentation level. My brunch date had a green chili hollandaise benedict dish. It was both creative and tasty. The confidence and attentiveness of the server made the team working together to deliver food make more sense. Thank you, Prohabition for encouraging me to give your restaurant another try and showing me what you strive to emulate as a business. Old Review: What the heck, Prohabition? I was so excited to go here. Our entire party arrived by 6:30 and the server came by immediately to take our drink order. Within 5 minutes we had our drinks and he asked for our dinner order. We asked for a few minutes. ONE HOUR later I got up and found our server, asking if he can please take our order. Thirty minutes later they brought one persons dish⌠cold nachos⌠twenty minutes later they brought another persons dish. Then 10 minutes later they (the server leaned on the staff this entire time to deliver) brought the last two dishes. At this point either Iâm to pissed off and embarrassed that I selected this place for my special occasion to enjoy the food or it is mediocre at best. It lacked depth of texture, was bland, and the presentation was similar to a mid range American bar. He did not ask how the food was, he bussed my empty drink and did not offer another. I asked for a box and he brought me one without offering others one then put it on my phone. So many fine dining infarctions. The atmosphere was adorable and the cocktails are consciously curated. Your service and food make this a mismatch for the price. Step it up, I am easy to please and kind but this really...
