I had a generally positive experience with the U of U Dermatology department in terms of medical care. The staff and doctors were helpful and provided excellent service during my visits. However, my experience with the billing department, particularly with the supervisor Whitney Stubbles, was extremely disappointing and stressful.
The billing issues began when it came time to pay the bill. Despite my insurance company, UHC, repeatedly contacting Whitney and her team, they refused to send the necessary information to get the bill paid. Legally, if they don't send the required info, they cannot bill the customer, but Whitney refused to listen to both my insurance company and me about this problem.
Whitney Stubbles was unprofessional, dismissive, and downright bullying in her approach. She made negative notes in my chart, which resulted in me being bullied and talked down to by whoever I called in the department. This made it impossible to have a constructive conversation regarding my bill.
This issue persisted for years, negatively impacting my credit. They even took me to court over a bill that was not my responsibility. Despite my insurance company's consistent communication explaining that I did not owe the bill, Whitney and her team ignored these communications and continued to pursue payment from me.
If you face similar issues, I recommend contacting Alicia Pierson or customer service directly, as dealing with Whitney Stubbles or any of her associates will likely lead to frustration and unresolved issues.
Overall, while the medical care at U of U Dermatology was great, the billing department's handling of my situation was the worst I've ever experienced. This is something potential patients should...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI had a terrible experience, obviously... on a positive note... the office was clean and easy to find. That being said, my bad experience began with calling the receptionist. My issue was actually not something that dermatologists even deal with, and that would have been nice to know before I made my appointment three weeks out. After I waited in the office for almost 20 minutes, I was seen. I told him my issue, and his reaction was to tell me the exact thing I had just told him. He then told me he would remove a few other things, yadda yadda... well, it turns out the yadda yadda bill was OUTRAGEOUS! Especially considering I didn't get my issue resolved AT ALL. It has now been three months, my issue has not been resolved, and I owe tons of money. I called the billing office three times to have this resolved. Twice they were in training, and it was obvious it wasn't in bedside manner. When I finally was able to talk to a human, she was rude and condescending. She acted confused by my call, and had zero empathy. I paid in full to receive a 10% discount and she acted like I should be over the moon. I am so disappointed. I will never trust a dermatologist again, especially with the University of Utah. Sucks, 'cause I love the U's healthcare usually...
tldr: ask how much things will be BEFORE getting anything done, and if you need surgery, call a surgeon. Dermatologists don't even...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreLetās get some things cleared up. Their website is ALL over the place. Getting an appointment hasnāt been easy. Website says they open at 8:00am M-T and 1-5pm on fridays. Nowhere on the website does it say scheduling begins at 7:00 daily. Nowhere. So I called Friday at 1:00 WHEN THEY OPEN to try and get a same day appointment and was told scheduling was already CLOSED for the day but if I called back first thing on Monday I could get that first slot. So first thing this morning I give them a call a full 20 minutes before their website says theyāre even open and was told that AGAIN there werenāt any appointments open. What is the point of having a same day clinic if you canāt get a same day appointment even before their posted hours? Katia at front desk let me know they do indeed open scheduling EVERYDAY at 7:00am despite their website saying differently. Moral of the story: you probably wonāt be able to get an appointment unless you blow up their phone at 6:40am. Please fix your website and update your desk staff so theyāre capable of helping people who require your service. And if there truly arenāt enough doctors available (as I was told) yāall really just need to discontinue this service and go back to a proper...
