We visited in March 2021 while on Spring Break with our young children. My wife wanted Jamaican cuisine and found a place on google. While reading those reviews, someone suggested Homestyle Restaurant and just said it was better. So without even trying the other place we decided to do Homestyle (it was also closer to where we were staying). All the reviews said to try the Ox Tail so that what we wanted to order. Unfortunately 6PM on a Saturday evening they were out. They didn't have much left of a lot of the other menu items either. We decided to go with the Jerk Chicken and Stewed Pork.

My wife liked the jerk chicken better but I preferred the stewed pork. The spice on the chicken I must admit was spot on but the pork was just so tender. Also even though they were out of ox tail, the cashier asked if we wanted to have the left over ox tail sauce poured over the rice and beans. We said yeah! My 10 year old said it was all good but his favorite was the plantains. I can't argue with him there. We would definitely order both again. You get a pretty large portion for the price.

The location and decor left very little to be desired. I don't think I would want to eat in the restaurant with my young kids. The music while nice was a bit too loud and it was even hard to hear the cashier when he was explaining the menu options to us. The employees were not very consistent with their face coverings but all the patrons ordering/waiting for their orders all had masks on. The cashier was pretty far behind the bar/counter so I wasn't too concerned with our physical distancing. Also they offer contact-less payment with chip.

Overall we would totally reorder carry out from Homestyle...

The food is generally good here so I came back a second time. This time the service left something to be desired. I don't want to put a negative light on this place, but it appears they need to learn to respect the customer. I'm just going to state what occurred. I ordered a large amount of food, including curry goat, curry chicken, and oxtails. The cashier checked and said it would be 15 minutes before the oxtails were ready. Forty-five minutes later, a got up and asked what's the status of my order. She checked and came back and said they were dishing it out now. Another 10 minutes later, I was still waiting. I asked the cashier why not tell me the oxtails wouldn't be ready, as I could have ordered something else. Finally after an hour of waiting, they brought out my order. Two of the entrees were missing! I had to wait another 15 minutes for the rest of the order! By this time I was so angry I couldn't speak. NOT ONE OF THESE PEOPLE EVER UTTERED ANYTHING OF AN APOLOGY OR OFFERED EVEN A GLASS OF WATER WHILE I WAITED. THEY ACTED AS THOUGH EVERYTHING WAS WONDERFUL. When I got home to eat with my family, THE OXTAILS STILL WERE UNDERCOOKED. They had offered to substitute and oxtail for goat because they were apparently running out of curry goat. But the one curry goat that I did get should have been left at the bottom of the pot. My experience here confirmation for me why these Jamaican restaurants never stay in business for long. I left there a very unhappy customer and I am certain they didn't give a...

My husband and I were lucky enough to honeymoon in Jamaica. I fell in love with that country about 20 minutes in. The people, the atmosphere, and THE FOOD. Every local dish I tried while being there was a lovely party in my tummy. I have been looking for a restaurant with those flavors for 10 friggin years yall. TEN YEARS. At last!! This smaller Homestyle Restaurant located at Myrtle Beach finally gave me the flavors I have been craving!! It even has some parking! We made the mistake of going after 8 (they close at 9 pm) and they were out of everything but fried chicken. My bad, should have called first! The man behind the counter was very nice and recommended coming closer to lunch time and of course we went back the next day. We both got the jerk chicken and I was doing my happy dance the entire time I ate. My only regret is not getting the other dishes To Go because we are now currently about to drive back to Northern Alabama and all I can think about is that food at 5 in the morning. This place is very well priced, especially for being located just a few blocks from the beach. Cute little grocery store next door with simple Jamaican staples. 100 out of 5 stars. Please try this place and remember this isn't boring bland American food, it has...

So! This must be the cleanest, lightest and sharpest Jamaican food I have ever had the pleasure of eating. Jamaican food though delicious, is typically heavy and could leave you feeling weighted down. Even bloated. Homestyle Jamaican restaurant food had all the great taste and comforting elements without the side effects. The rice and peas was fluffy and aromatic. There was a hint of herb/spice maybe cardamom or allspice? Can't put my finger on it but it definitely helped to cleanse my pallet. The oxtail was surprisingly lean. I mean there was zero fat on the meat! The sauce/gravy was light and also contained a spice which elevated the dish. I ate some food immediately and the rest several hours later. To my surprise the ox tail gravy was not coagulated and had not hardened with fat. I did not need to warm it up to enjoy. The food was delightful! 2 thumbs way up to the chef. I can't wait to go back so I can try the curry goat.

I walked in I thought it was warm inside however ordered, the food came out nice and hot. The oxtails are reasonably price, so I ordered that. I am also on a quest to find the best Jamaican fried chicken, so I ordered fried chicken also it was juicy and delicious, perfectly fried and crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. The only problem I had is I directly tipped an employee that worked there and a manager (I assume) literally walked over to her and took it from her hand and shoved it into a tip jar. He did it so aggressively I apologize that I didn’t know the policy. His response “it’s alright” (you gotta love Jamaicans🤣) I then proceeded to ask the employee (privately) and she said they share tips… but again his energy was way too aggressive for that $4 dollars. *This should’ve been 5 stars but they need to work on inside the restaurant.
