Initially, I was not going to write a review for Golf Trek as I had an extremely disappointing experience. However, after relentless automated emails AND text messages asking for a review, I have decided to delve into this endeavor.
I booked a trip for myself and some golf buddies to head down and play some courses at Myrtle Beach for seven straight days and we were looking forward to our excursion. I selected the courses, potential tee times, and made my payment (which was confirmed by the vendor). After which, I told my buddies we were set for an excellent golfing vacation.
This is when all the problems began with Golf Trek. I received a phone call from Parker to tell me that our selection was not possible that there was a "glitch" in the website and the courses I selected could not be played at that rate I had paid. Needless to say, I was confused. Golf Trek already had my money and sent me a confirmation of the transaction, but somehow it was unacceptable to Parker (whom I believe is owner and CEO, at least that is the title he gave me when I spoke with him).
I asked him to honor the price that I paid for the package I selected and to take ownership of the "glitch" in the website. To which, Parker stood firm saying that my package had not been paid for because it was to await confirmation from him before moving forward. I was distraught and disappointed as I felt it was a complete bait and switch formula that preys on individuals looking for help when booking a golfing getaway to Myrtle Beach. Furthermore, this is not the first instance in which there has been a "glitch" with Golf Trek's website, as other reviews have indicated similar experiences. I would have been more understanding if this was a one-off type of situation. Unfortunately, it is either apart of their business model or they are aware of the problem and have done nothing to correct it. Nonetheless, it is poor business practice either way.
After going back and forth with Parker, he offered to give me the package I selected at his "cost". Before I accepted that deal I called the courses directly to inquire about pricing. As it turns out, Parker's "cost" was really his acceptable margin, as when I called the courses directly I received a lower price to play than I did from Golf Trek. Having been in sales and customer service (in one form or another for 20 years), I was perplexed at the stance Parker took when discussing options with me. He opted to hold steadfast with his position. Resulting in the loss of all my potential business moving forward in the years to come, as this trip will be an annual occurrence.
Trying to work out a compromise with Golf Trek (after it was apparent that they were not going to honor the initial price I paid) was a fruitless and thoroughly frustrating. However, I was not deterred. I simply asked Parker to cancel the transaction and coordinated our golfing vacation through another vendor and could not be more pleased with our results.
Lastly, the records keeping within Golf Trek is miserable. I received a plethora of unsolicited emails and text messages asking for a review of services they ultimately did not render. I truly did not want to leave a business with a poor review, but they were persistent with their request. So, there are my thoughts on the experience I suffered with Golf Trek. I do not recommend using their services and will actively tell anyone who inquires about what they should to when to planning a trip to Myrtle Beach to avoid this...

Read moreI got completely ripped off. Had a special weekend with my son planned and asked Julie my rep from golf trek to find a nice comfortable place to stay for two nights with a couple of nice golf courses. I said I’d like to spend about $1000 and she said she found me a great package for $1140 and I trusted this. I also asked for walking distance to nice restaurants and this was not the case.
The hotel was a very low end place and very noisy at night to where neither my son nor I got solid sleep due to the outside noise of the drunks and squealing tires and motor cycle engines revving till the early hours of the morning. It was not an updated space like I was told it would be and had old oak cabinets and Formica countertops, Loud shower head that was obnoxious, etc.. The area clearly attracts that clientele which was also evident by seeing the demeanor of many hotel guests.
Complimentary breakfast looked terrible so we ate elsewhere.
First golf course was a 30 minute drive and was very average and less then average for a Myrtle beach course. Nothing wrong with it but not what I paid for and like a community course. The second course again was decent but nothing memorable.
I asked the hotel how much they charge a night for walk ins and the rate would have been $120 and the golf courses were $47 and $95!!
In summary the commissions on this stay for locating below average places was at least a 100% mark up. My son who is an E2 in the navy was disappointed with the accommodation and he lives in the barracks in Camp Lejune if this gives any perspective.
If paying the regular hotel rates and golf courses rates there would be little to complain about as prices were low. The issue is how Golf Trek took good money and gave us the cheapest places while overselling them.
I sent an email to my salesperson Julie to let her know I was disappointed and no follow up. Basically I paid good money to stay at a dive hotel suited for a spring break for college kids and play at lower end golf courses. I should have just reserved my own hotel and courses and would have got way better places to stay and courses and...
