WHAT AN ABSOLUTE EMBARRASSMENT TO NACOGDOCHES THAT THIS PLACE APPEARS TO BE POPULAR SOMETIMES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Every time I pass by Mak's I think about one of the sayings from the late great Yogi Berra; "Nobody goes there anymore because it's too crowded." Another baseball saying comes to mind; "Three strikes and yer out!"
Been here at least 7 times now and the experiences have been mostly bad. I wish someone with success running a restaurant would buy this place out because it has potential especially considering there is not a lot competition here in Nac.
Food service times are very, very slow as mentioned repeatedly in other reviews. We have waited for over an hour for food and then the food is cold. The tables are packed too close together and it gets too loud to have pleasant conversation.
Ordered the buffalo bird poboy one time when the place was not crowded and the service time was still very slow. The poboy was cold, the cheese had solidified and the small amount of chicken included was cut into tiny pieces that only a gerbil would enjoy.
One time when the place was crowded I was at the bar and waited for over fifteen minutes to order a beer and then the panicked bartender forgot to bring the beer and a fifteen minute wait turned into over 30 minutes.
I have fouled off a lot of strikes hoping this place would come around but strike three came last Sunday afternoon when I went to see the Cowboys/Patriots game. The place was not crowded and I ordered the Philly cheesesteak. What I received was the worst attempt ever to make a poboy!!!!!! There was such a small amount of meat on the hoagie that it did not even fill up the crease in the middle of the bread. It came cold, the cheese had solidified and it was cut into small pieces OBVIOUSLY to spread the meat out to save money. The meat was not enough for one taco!!!!!! How any cook could decide to serve this is stunning. The bartender was surprised also and I asked her if the kitchen had run out meat. She said "no" and said she would discount the check. The check arrived and I was charged the full amount. "Strike three, yer out!"
I AM A VERY FAIR REVIEWER AND DON'T REVIEW UNTIL I HAVE BEEN TO A PLACE NUMEROUS TIMES AND I AM NOT EXAGGERATING WHEN I SAY THIS WAS THE WORST ATTEMPT EVER TO SERVE ME A MEAL IN MY LIFE!!!!!

This is another restaurant on the main drag of North St. It is my first visit. Atmosphere is pleasant with music being played that is loud but does not interfere with your conversation. There are four televisions on with the sound off. You have the choice of tables or booths to dine.
A pleasant experience with a large menu, friendly service, and reasonable prices. Even more reasonable because of the portions of the selections.
My lunch partner enjoyed the All American Burger with Onion Rings as a side. Very good and I was particularly happy with some shared Onion Rings that are made in house and not frozen. Definitely will have my own full order on my next visit.
My selection was the Inferno Salad. This dish contains Sriracha Marinated Chicken, Crisp Romaine, Black Beans, Roasted Corn, Avocado Slices, Shredded Carrots, Red Onions, and Feta Cheese.
This was many a mouth fulls and very good. Some places list items in a selection and you have to search to find them. The chicken pieces were plentiful. Could have been a bit more spicy but do consider the writer and his upbringing in New Orleans.
Would recommend also that this super Salad be served in a larger plate selection. A little problem keeping the food from falling out onto the table. Very minor comment and really not a complaint.
Second glass of Iced Tea was served without a problem. Service was very nice and made the stop here enjoyable for food and the way we were treated.
There is a paper menu but you can use your phone to pull up the menu yourself by pointing your camera at the Barcode on the napkin holder. See picture.
It does without saying that the businesses here have ample parking for all...
Read moreNever would I have expected moving to east Texas and find such good quality fusion food. The tacos are some of the best I've ever had, they are not traditional tacos. They have flavors I ever would have expected, and will never forget. The appetizers are so great I will eat them as a meal. The prices are good too and their weekly specials will keep you coming back for more. They do get crowed so don't expect to get your food as fast as McDonald's, it is definitely worth the wait though.
Now the drink menu, the handmade classic cocktails they serve will blow you away. They have the biggest beer menu anywhere in the area too, so if you like craft beers this is the place for you. They rotate the beers on tap so each time you come back there is a new set. Don't worry though they will have it in bottle if it's not on tap.
The staff is probably the best in the area too, I've been to all the bars in Nac and I got to say, they raised the bar. Before them you had to deal with rude bartenders who didn't know what they were doing.
Overall the quality of food and drinks and the atmosphere, makes you feel like you're at a trendy hot spot in Austin or Houston. With live music and weekly specials there is bound to be something...
