By chance I found a check written out to Dune burger for $700 in the Dune burger parking lot. I took the check right up to the window and some drugged out looking guy with his shirt off standing in the parking lot started yelling at me to give him the check. I did with any reasonable person would do, ignore the druggy and gave the check to the girl in the Dune Burger order window. But then druggie guy started yelling at the girl taking orders and went up to her and snatched the check out of her hands. The girl seem to look like this was an everyday occurrence and at this point I realized crazy guy was probably the owner or manager at Dune Burger. The man said “get out of here we are closed now!” He aggressively moved closer to yell at me as if he was going to fight me! The girl shut the order window in my face and refused to even look at me. ….I found them a $700 check and returned it to them and this is how they treat me. I could’ve tore it up or thrown it in the garbage or not even picked it up. Many people out there would try to cash it! You would think they be happy that somebody honest found their check and returned it to them before somebody dishonest found it! Went to this place on the advice of a friend, who raved about it. We were heading home from the OBX after a week-long vacation and would normally have had a big breakfast at Sonny's in Hatteras Village, but thought we should save our appetite for DuneBurger. Big mistake! It was horrible. We got there just as they opened at 11 and ordered burgers and fries. The fries were okay, pretty much like McDonald's. The burgers were worse than high-school cafeteria fare - I mean, at least those were WARM. The buns were actually cold on top, and tasted the way buns do when they've been in the freezer too long and then thawed. The "burger" patty was dry and tasteless. It was also completely slathered in mustard, both sides, maybe to hide the fact that it had absolutely no flavor at all on its own. And for this we paid about what we would've paid for a delicious full breakfast at Sonny's. I sure wish we had that to do all over again, because vacation eating is supposed to be fun, and this was an absolute, utter disappointment.
