Went at 9:45 am on Saturday morning so my experience could be just a weekend blip. Deir really needs to figure out their order fulfillment process, especially for a weekend as they are gaining traction. We waited 1.5 hrs to get our order.
They have an online ordering system and an in-person order. There was only one barista!!! Good baristas are hard to find. This guy makes legit good coffee and was working at machine speed. So kudos to this wonderful man! But the order quantities were crazy- the tickets in the two hours we were there lined their entire kitchen cabinet. The bottleneck is they need another barista - one to pull espresso and another to prepare the complex ingredient list.
I am not sure how the order went out of wack, but we shouldn’t have had to wait 1.5 hrs for our coffee. Online orders and in person orders were not managed differently that just added to the delay.
The rush quietened after 11 am, so that is a better time to visit I reckon.
They got our order wrong but we didn’t want to bother and what we got were all satisfactory good. The lotus coffee, mortadella zatar croissant were good. Wasn’t a fan of the baklawa coffee. And the chocolate cinnamon roll is not what we got. There was no cinnamon, just nutella spread between croissant. Would they have done a better job with the flavor and food on a less crowded day - who knows.
The atmosphere is cozy and modern. 1000 to proudly repping Palestine.
The coffee is good. Major side-eye to whoever compared Deir’s 100% Arabica medium roasted to the starbucks overburnt coffee. I will say those who want to taste beans, just go with Gazan coffee. All the other drinks are laden with syrup (then by all means compare to starbucks). Starbucks however has perfected order management so yes better that way.
Parking is limited too. I would be very nervous to grab coffee from here when in a rush during peak coffee hours.
I know there were quite a few people disappointed like we were. I know Deir has potential, just needs to...
Read moreBeautiful little Palestinian coffee shop. The owner is extremely easy to talk to and I love his twists and passion for coffee itself.
The space is a residential/commercial unit so don’t let that surprise you when you walk in. Plenty of seating and open late which is a huge plus. One thing is that the tables are not as high so can be tiring to your back if you need to write etc. Other than that fantastic space with plenty of natural lighting and comforting atmosphere. Free wifi is available.
Parking was not difficult, found street parking nearby and is free.
The owner put a lot of thought into the types of beans and the machinery for his espresso. It’s great to see a high end grinder in newer coffee shops. He loves input and constructive criticism for his drinks and is always experimenting with milk choice and ratio, water, beans, spice ratio, etc.
I ordered the Deir Latte and I was pleasantly surprised by it. Suggested that maybe he tweak the ratio of milk/spice to espresso to get it just right.
As he is starting off new, I do hope to see maybe different cups and size options as well as iced drinks in the future.
The pastries and chocolates are made by a local woman and are amazing.
I say definitely try this spot out and support your local coffee shops! Excited to see...
Read moreThe lattes at Deir are delightful. I've tried three different drinks now, and I have not been disappointed at all. I have tried the Deir latte, the Choco de Coco latte, and the Dubai Chocolate latte. All of them are flavorful, but the espresso is still forward. They are not overly sweet but still indulgent. If you do not like sweet at all, I would definitely go for the Deir Latte.
The service is great. The people behind the counter (and I think maybe owners) are kind and take the time to chat with you or answer questions about their product.
The shop itself is a little small and it can become quite crowded. So, if you plan to sit and enjoy your food or coffee there, then just know it's a little tight fitting.
Overall, I think this is a wonderful shop and highly recommend...
