The Adventure Science Center has been around for a while. I visited it it the early and mid 2000s with my older children and now with my 10 and 14 year old.
It has added a small dinosaur display, which we enjoyed. They have a large dinosaur, which is named and has info. There is also a dinosaur fossil bed and a couple of skulls. I wish there was more labeling though. The dinosaur skulls were not named. My daughter thought she knew what they were but wasn't sure.
The tinker area is great! Be forwarned it is loud as kids are hammering. Kids and adults can build wood creations. There are basic woodworking tools and supplies available. Everyone had a great time here. An adult must be with the kids to participate.
The playground is amazing as always. Climb to the top to see out the roof of the pyramid. The solar system display is also fun and educational.
The sound and music area is fun and interesting. Step into a sound booth to test out your vocal range. See if you can keep tempo with an orchestra. Lots of fun displays educating kids on the science involved in music along with fun hands-on learning through technological displays.
Here is the reason for my 4 stars instead of 5. The human body area is sadly getting dingy and many of the displays were not working. My older kids loved this area. But sadly, it is not what it used to be. Most kids were running around like it was Chucky Cheese, not really learning anything, pushing random buttons, and walking away.
I love the many updates and hands-on learning experiences offered at Adventure Science Center. There needs to be some thought into updating or fixing the human body area.
We went for a field trip with our tutorial. Children's tickets were $8-very reasonable. Adult tickets were $20! I thought this was pretty pricey and almost chose not to go because of it.
All in all, you should check this out. Plan to stay for a while. We could have easily...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreTLDR if you don't want to read: The Adventure Science Center has so much potential but sections are out of date and dirty. It seems like they are updating exhibits from the ground floor up which is great but I don't know the timeline for that.
I want to start off by saying, I am glad the Adventure Science Center exists. It's a great place for kids with lots of space to run and some really unique exhibits. I recently took my nephew and he had a great time but also some frustrations.
When we walked in I found out that we could use the tickets we bought to go toward buying an annual pass. My nephew is 3and we are always looking for more indoor play areas for him so it was something to think about as he played.
Unfortunately, the museum needs more funding. It felt as if half the exhibits didn't were, were broken, or dirty. The body quest area was the saddest culprit in this. It has mostly gone unchanged probably since 2005 when it opened, the only thing its found is age.
So much of it is wasted space because there isn't really much to play pretend with in the xray/physician area or the ambulance or the hearing room. The digestion had a broken "churning" and chomping section.
With that, kids want to play and climb in the center of the museum but half of that is closed up for some reason.
In the toddler area the building tracks for cars/trains were broken so kids couldn't create full circuits.
The new exhibits with sound and space are pretty cool. They lean more told older kids but my nephew had a lot of fun since there were things he could dance and sing to and touch. The crafting section was also pretty great.
Ultimately, I don't feel comfortable buying a pass since for the cost I don't feel like there's enough to do physically for kids. There was also just a lack of hand sanitizing stations which felt off for a...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis place was fun even though a few things didn't work. Enjoyed the planetarium show very much so. However, if school kids and kids of the public would in anyway be on separate days that would be a much better idea. I watched multiple parents scoop and lose their smaller kids who want to have fun to thanks to the mass amount of school kids. A good amount of those kids were pushing and running over smaller kids. Ages 4-6 want to have fun to. They also want to do the cool things not go to the baby section with puzzles. It is perfectly fine for younger kids but the 4-6 age shouldn't have to get obliterated by larger kids who are hardly being supervised by 1-2 teachers. It was upsetting to see so many parents who were now out of options on what to do besides grab their kids and panic or go in to Subway to wait until the show started all because their kids stopped being able to enjoy the trip. That was in no way enjoyable after that happen. I feel this could be easily prevatable problem. There was definitely not enough for THAT amount of kids of all those ages and sizes to do today. It was fun but it definitely sounded like a war was happening when they all burst in the doors. Very disappointed just seeing a poor 2 year old trying to enjoy a bigger slide and the blowers have them yanked from him and watching him be smashed in tube because mom lost him due to the amount of kids and I was also trying to assist mine in getting away from said boys/crowd. Heard many complaints from parents on...
