Pizza is pizza, right? WRONG! Everyone can do pizza but few places actually take it a step further to stand out from the general masses.
One day while visiting the quant shops of Nashville before heading back to Indy I was checking out reviews on Yelp to find a good place to eat. What's fun is I typically only read the negative reviews when a place is rated 4 stars or better just to get a full idea. Well I wasn't convinced this was the place to eat, BUT the reviews seemed good and I can always go for pizza.
When we arrived we were seated quickly and due to the humidity we asked to sit inside. Its a very rustic feel in there with tables and chairs that appear to have been carved out back from a tree. Its neat...and different so though it isn't my style I liked it. THEN the only complaint that I have is how long we waited for someone to come to our table. They were not busy, a total of maybe 4 tables were being used and I saw more than enough staff walking around. But they all ignored us. Just as I was about to say lets go somewhere else someone finally came by and asked if we had been helped. When we responded with a huge no she left and got someone to take care of us.
By this point we pretty much knew what we wanted to eat as we had so much time to look over the menu. I went with the BBQ pizza and I am pretty sure my other half had some loaded meat pizza of some sort. Anyway, after we ordered that I then wanted to add the cheese bread appetizer to the mix. I flagged down our server and asked if I could add that. She said yes, but that it would probably end up coming out all at once. I said that was fine.
A short while later our food arrived. The cheese bread was to die for. It was just loaded with 5 different types of cheeses. I could totally eat a whole one all by myself if someone would let me. As for my BBQ pizza, that too was to die for. It was so full of flavor I was very surprised. These people understood what it took to make an excellent pizza. I was so happy that I wanted to cry when I was so full but didn't want to stop eating. All of the toppings worked with each other to create an orgy of flavor in my mouth. It was for sure pizza heaven.
Once we had a server she did a great job, apologized for the longer than usual wait and really took care of us. She was upbeat and had a personality which was nice. She made up for the long wait we had at the very beginning.
I definitely would recommend this place to anyone visiting Nashville, IN. The service is a little shaky but the food...
Read moreBig Woods Pizza is a staple in Nashville, IN, and after my visit, I can see why! This place is always bustling with families and tourists, offering a warm, inviting atmosphere with great service and even better food.
We started our meal with a beer flight and a half-cut iced tea. The tea was brewed perfectly—not too strong, not too weak—just the right balance. Our appetizer, the homemade breadsticks with cheese, was outstanding. You get four large (10-12”) breadsticks, all fresh and warm, served with a choice of four sauces: cheese, marinara, olive oil, and garlic butter. The default is garlic butter with Parmesan mixed in, and it was absolutely delicious. These breadsticks alone are worth the visit!
For the main course, I ordered the steak sandwich, which came on a toasted 8” hoagie bun with tomatoes, arugula, and horseradish, plus chopped steak similar to a Philly cheesesteak. It was flavorful and well-prepared, but I would have loved a bit more horseradish for that extra kick. A pickle spear on the side would have been a great addition as well. The sandwich was served with classic Ruffles potato chips, but I found myself wishing they offered homemade fries. I imagine they could cut and bake them in the pizza oven, which would be a fantastic complement to their sandwiches.
From what I observed, their pizza is also homemade with a signature dough, and every dish coming out of the kitchen looked amazing. The service was top-notch—attentive without being intrusive. My tea was never empty, and our server made sure we had everything we needed.
Overall, Big Woods Pizza is a must-visit when in Nashville, IN. Whether you're here with family or just stopping by as a tourist, you’ll find a lively atmosphere, excellent service, and delicious homemade food. I’ll...
Read moreMy friends and I have come here yearly with a big group of people (roughly 14 give or take and we typically never call ahead for a reservation because there’s never been an issues besides maybe a bit of a wait in the past) and the past few years we have all been sat together, no issues, no questions. This past week, half of our group (6 people) went ahead to get a big table (12pm on a Friday but it was fairly empty, especially inside) and the 2 hostesses who were working told them they weren’t able to sit us all together due to the zones of the waiters. The first group of us were sat inside and then the other group comes (8 people) and we are sat inside but a few tables away, in the corner on the other side of the restaurant. We asked our waiter if we could all be sat together, if it was a waiter issue then maybe we have 2 waiters at one table, etc etc (we offered many things to try to be sat together as a group like we normally do every year). He tells us that we can’t because of the zones. What was slightly odd about this though was we ask if we could pay on the same bill and he was more than happy to accommodate that. It also turned out that we had the exact same waiter for both of our tables in “different zones for different waiters”. We’re still wondering why we were not able to be sat together and therefore will not be continuing our yearly tradition of coming here. The hostesses were rude to us when we asked politely to be sat together, they laughed and giggled. Would not recommend this place if you are coming here with a big group because they “can not/will not seat you together due to their zoning...
