This restaurant has a distinct family-owned feel, located downstairs from street level. The interior is entirely decorated with Indiana University and Bobby Knight memorabilia, creating a unique but very specific atmosphere. However, the dining tables and chairs were noticeably low-quality, resembling outdoor furniture, which detracted from the overall experience.
We ordered Tom Yum Chicken and Padd Thai Chicken, both with a hot spice level. The Tom Yum soup had a homemade quality, featuring lemongrass and galangal, and offered a well-balanced flavor. However, despite being served at a very hot temperature, it lacked the expected heat, as there wasn’t enough Thai chili sauce to bring the spice.
The Padd Thai had an unexpected flavor profile, different from any I’ve had before. Having tried Thai cuisine across the country, my personal benchmark remains Thai Spice in Greenwood, IN, which offers a distinct and consistent flavor I prefer. I’m not sure if the difference here is due to regional variations in Thai cooking, but the noodles had a flavor that didn’t align with my expectations.
The restaurant was very busy, and the service was moderately attentive with young family members assisting in the dining area. While I appreciated the warm and welcoming atmosphere, the food itself didn’t quite meet my personal preferences, especially in terms of...
Read moreI wanted to like this place so much. We went once on a week night. It wasn’t very busy. We were sat immediately but then waited 10 minutes for someone to come get our drink order. Then waited almost 10 more minutes to get the drinks. For our appetizer, we ordered crab Rangoon. I thought it was just okay but my husband really liked it. It came with 5 pieces and about half of a 2 ounce cup of sweet and sour. That was disappointing. My husband had the Hoosier Thai chicken and I had the pineapple fried rice. They mixed it up and gave me the medium and him the mild so mine was too spicy for me. The taste was good for both though. The servers ran around like they were actually working but didn’t appear to do anything and just in general the service was terrible.
A week later we tried to order carry out. I called and was put on hold and forgotten about for 9 minutes. So my husband goes up and orders. He said they had to come to him 3 different times bc they kept forgetting what he ordered and then kept forgetting to actually put it in. By the time they actually got it together and got the order in, it has been more than 30 minutes then had to wait for it to be made. Get it home and they forgot the rice.
Absolutely will...
Read moreWe walked down stairs into the subterranean dining room and were quickly greeted and seated. We snagged a booth and thumbed through the large menu. I noted an entire page of gluten-free dishes.
We ordered:
🍛 #26 - The Cashew Nuts 🍛 #20 - Pad Kee Mao (Drunken Noodles)
I was shocked when our food arrived in well under five minutes. I had to do a double-take! 😮
Now, we are lucky to have many Thai restaurants in Indianapolis; and I’ve been to several of them. In fact, my favorite restaurant in the city is Baan Thai Bistro, an amazing Thai spot. So understand that my basis for comparison is large and I’m tougher to impress with Thai food. 😬
That being said, both dishes came out hot and were nicely flavorful. I would put them on par with some Thai restaurants in Indy. I think local patrons will enjoy having access to authentic Thai cuisine.
I found the veggies in the Drunken Noodles to lack some color and vibrancy. As I made my way to the inner noodles they were slightly undercooked and chewy. I wondered if perhaps their quick arrival played a part. 🤔
At $31, pricing was right in line with what I’ve seen elsewhere. It was the same for both...
