Mallett Brothers Barbeque — Restaurant in Navasota

I want to start off saying that normally everything here is amazing. Today 3/3/2023 I went in and ordered from the grill 12oz steak med rare and chicken fried steak both with 2 sides along with a kids cheese burger that we get for our dog. It came to 51.12 drink and dessert. The steak was rare to raw. The cfs was so salty I couldn't eat it but was unable to let the manager know this because I hadn't even tried to eat it yet because I was missing the gravy and my sides were wrong. Sierra took my order correctly and was so apologetic. The manager on the other hand said I could bring the steak back up there (now I live 30 minutes away) and they would regrill it or I could do it myself but they couldn't replace the steak. At the end of the conversation he asked if there was anything else and I said it would be nice to get a discount or something the next time I come in. He told me of course we'll put you down for a free side and extra gravy the next time you're in. Wow!!! Mom and pop restaurants have treated me better. Oh, and McDonald's they replaced my whole order for just forgetting my cookies. Now don't get me wrong I don't expect something for nothing but, I sure am not happy when I spend 50 for dinner and can't eat two of the meals. All I can say is IF we ever go back I'll either dine in or if I take out I'll definitely go through the whole order and cut into and taste everything. It's ashame because we have always gotten excellent food. I forgot that the manager says it's not an excuse but they do have a new person back there. Well what more can you say. If you go there just beware they don't replace food unless it's the sides and double check your Togo order before you leave and maybe taste it otherwise you might be in the same spot...

We had the 3 meat plate with sliced brisket, jalapeño cheese sausage, and the smoked chicken salad. We had the corn casserole and the green bean casserole as out sides. We also had a 2 meat with brisket and turkey. The sides for the two meat was a double helping of mac-n-cheese. Service was lacking a bit. The employees seemed like they had something better to do and no one was behind the counter when we were ready to order. The meats are on a steam table which concerned me a bit because it usually over cooks and dries out the meat.. The brisket had a nice bark and great flavor. The sausage was good but it was lacking on the jalapeño and had too much cheese. The turkey was dry and had little to no flavor at all. The smoked chicken salad was not good. It is made with sweet relish and maybe miracle whip as well. I don't like a sweet chicken salad. Overall the meats were almost room temperature and I've had better. The sides are on a steam table and are self served. The corn casserole was good but the green bean casserole was just plain and boring. The mac-n-cheese was ok, it actually reminded me of box mac-n-cheese. Also, they weren't as warm temperature wise as I would like it. The restaurant wasn't as clean as it should have been either. There were several tables that needed to be wiped off and we wiped ours off because no employees were in sight. The bathroom needed to be cleaned as well. The toilet looked like it hasn't been cleaned in some time. This could have been water stains but it appeared dirty to me. Overall I wouldn't eat here again or recommend to...

I feel like I ate at a different place than the other reviews. We had driven by this restaurant a few times and decided to try it out. Walking in, it's not very welcoming. There was a large table of people there but they had eaten already, it wasn't very busy. The front case had only maybe two things in it. I am not sure if that is normal or not. The line moved reasonably fast. We ordered sweet potato fries and an order of chips with two sandwiches. The employees are extremely nice and friendly. I am so glad I didn't pay for other sides. The table with the sides looked like they had been sitting out all day. For the price I wouldn't expect a buffet style for sides. I would expect fresh or at least from the back. The sandwiches were good. Not the best. We finished eating our sandwiches and waited about 5-10 more minutes before I finally walked up to ask the status on our fries and chips. They were brought out shortly after. The chips were really good and had good seasoning. The fries weren't special, likely frozen prior. Overall it was just ok. I don't think that we'll be back. Maybe it was just an off day for them. I had higher hopes with all the awards on the wall and...
