The Local — Restaurant in Neptune Beach

This was our 2nd time at The Local. We tried the one near San Jose some months back. We had a terrible experience but we decided to try this one after a Facebook post in Jax best eats recently. Well it was 3 of us today. We were there nearly 2 hours. We probably only waited out front for 15. The rest was spent at the table. We had 4 food items and 2 were horrible. The 2 that were JUST ok were the short ribs brunch meal. They both had to add salt and pepper and hot sauce to give it flavor which is crazy considering how good it looks. My meal the chicken, country potatoes, eggs and waffle was terrible. The half a chicken breast was so tough and rubbery, almost tire texture. The eggs were watery or milky, The waffle was soggy and clearly just sitting. I didn't get any condiments or sauces requested either. To be honest it didn't even look incredibly busy. There was no one even sitting around us. The baked oysters dish was nothing but a glob or cheese and small oysters. Like is the cheese meant to distract from the small size? It definitely tasted cheesy and that's all you could taste, no oyster, butter or even seasoning. I was thoroughly upset. It didn't help that the waitress only popped in every 20 or so minutes. Even when I said I had a problem she disappeared. Came back 5 or more minutes later and said a manager was coming. They never came. 20 minutes later we finally got the bill where she comped it. This place is mediocre and extremely over priced for the quality and taste. I usually don't give 2nd chances after the type of experience I had at the other location, but I am trying to change that because things happen. This however was a slap in the face. We will never get those 2 hours back and now I have to find a quick sandwich since we don't eat before brunch. Got there before 12, left close to 2 hungry and...

My boyfriend and I were excited to try this place. It was a Thursday night and we got a table right away. We were given a drink menu as well as a food menu. The drink menu looked very appealing so we both ordered a strawberry pina colada, thinking frozen. Our waitress came back and said the bartender recommended we do it on the rocks as it tended to be watery when blended. It was also recommended with whip cream, we took her up on it. The glass the drink wasn't a traditional pina colada glass and more than half was whipped cream. I am not sure I would order it again. The waitress was very polite and attentive. She took our food order along with the appetizer. We got the artichoke and spinach dip with toaster brioche. It was very good some of the beat I have had. The only thing was not having enough bread which we had to wait for meanwhile our food came. I ordered The Hendrick which was a burger with goat cheese. My boyfriend got The Bistro Burger and added cheese, with a side salad/blue cheese. My burger was a chicken sandwich, which I had to ask the waitress to make the correct thing. My bf loved his burger and the chibatta bread was wonderful. The beer burger had a great flavor and cooked perfect as he asked. The blue cheese dressing at first was runny, but upon tasting it, he stated that it was amazing. I did get the burger I ordered along with fresh French fries, but I was full by the time my order arrived. The manager, Tyler, came over to apologize. I live in Jacksonville and had never been here before. The place always looked cute and popping. My friends and I decided to go there, which ended up being a huge disappointment. We called for reservations, we had heard that had live music outside. We requested outside seating with the live music. They took our name, number and email for the reservation. We showed up on time for the reservation. Just for them to sit us inside. After asking about outside they stated “the tables outside are reserved.” We stated that we had reservations. They refused to move us, and we didn’t push as we didn’t want to be too rude. The service was horrible. It took 30 minutes for our first drinks. And a total of 50 for appetizers. I had mentioned to the waitress to put my entree in with the appetizers but she could bring it out a few minutes later. She communicated that she would wait to put it in and watch. I believe she forgot about the order as it did not come out until over 75 minutes total later. When we asked about it she said “it’ll be another 10 minutes” - 20 minutes later. I got a burger and asked for medium well. After biting into the burger, and after her charging me since we got out checks when the burger came out because we wanted to leave - IT WAS RAW.
