I've been twice. The first time I was looking for a casual lunch. They don't have much in the area of casual $. So I went back for dinner with my wife for her bday. We sat at the sushi bar. Don't waste your time. You can't see anything the chefs are working on. The bar is too low. I ordered drinks and asked about the Omakase menu, wanting the best they had to offer. The waiter told me to just go with the Sushi/Sashimi combo, it wasn't much different and the Omakase Sashimi didn't have any chef toppings, only the Sushi (wow). I replied that we'll probably do that but give us a minute to think about appetizers and enjoy our drinks. 5 minutes later the S/S combo was delivered. I was confused, but it was fine, because that's probably what we would have decided on. The food was fine. It was the same level of Fancy or Volcano. It was ok. I had higher expectations based on the price level and word of mouth. Based on the location, price level, quality level, I would choose other sushi options. For example Boathouse has much better chef options. I will not be returning. The hype is much higher than what's delivered. I've been to other high end sushi cities where your mind is blown. This...
Read moreBeautiful sushi restaurant with a variety of menu items. The atmosphere is lovely (except for the purple accent lighting), the service is very professional and friendly and the food was great. If I could take away half a star I would because I just didnât think the crispy tuna rice appetizer was as good as others Iâve tried in other cities. I didnât care for the sweet wasabi which made the dish too sweet and the crispy rice was too mushy inside. It wasnât like other crispy rice dishes it was more like a rice patty or something. I ordered a spicy tuna roll but I added avocado, cucumber and crunch. It was good except they put a blanket of crunch on top which I thought was overkill but still tasted great! You can see it in the photo. The one other thing Iâd recommend changing is the music. As a restaurant owner, I know that you canât just play whatever you want, you have to have a subscription but the genre they were playing was American songs sung by other artists. It was annoying and I think it would be more pleasant to hear tasteful Japanese instrumental. Overall I highly recommend...
Read moreJapan has come to Neptune Beach, finally. Yamasaki is a very legitimate Japanese sushi restaurant. The selection of sushi, and the skill with which it is prepared reminded both my wife and I of our best sushi experiences when we lived in Japan. Between the two of us that is ten years. Yamasaki was recommended to us by the wonderful Japanese mother of my piano tuner. She said it was legit, and it was. The freshness of the fish on the chef's sampler was made even more perfect by the incredible way it was paired with a unique garnish for each one. The teriyaki chicken was outstanding and the tuna and cucumber roll excellent. You must try the green tea creme brulee. The perfect dessert. Shout out to Benny the manager. His personal touch was evident as I watched him show a new server what their standard is for setting a table. Also, Justin our server was awesome. Go...
