I've eaten at this location and Jeffersonville before and had satisfactory experiences, but my recent visit to New Albany was not a good one. I would first like to state that the front of house is satisfactory. My comment centers more on the back of house.
Orders for our large group (11) seemed to come out two plates at a time so it took a few minutes for the whole table to get their orders. Since this was on a Saturday morning and the business was practically full it's obvious servers were hustling food out as quickly as possible.
I ordered the Eggs Bennie with grits. Although the eggs benedict looked and tasted picture perfect, they could've been warmer as they were nearly room temperature. It's very challenging to keep poached eggs warm enough to get to a table so I can overlook this. The grits, however, were nearly cold and were runny except for some lumps. I make grits at least once a week and they are not that hard to make nor keep hot, thick and tasty. Seasoning is a basic requirement but since the salt & pepper shakers at the tables are completely useless for dispensing seasoning I just gave up. I asked my server to bring me another order and they were just as bad, if not worse, than the first batch. When Waffle House beats you on grits you have some work to do. While I appreciated the chef's visit to our table I declined to accept his invitation to come at 6:00am Sunday morning to demonstrate the proper method to make grits.
At some point I expect I will return for another visit but I don't be ordering grits again. They have a wide and varied menu with ample choices so I'm sure there will be something else that will...
Read moreThis was my first visit to Wild Eggs, and was happy to eat a meal here. The restaurant is only open in the morning and early afternoon, so come by early.
I tried the strawberry tallcakes, a blueberry muffin, a side of potatoes, and a sweet tea.. All items were of higher quality food and enjoyable. The muffin tasted more like a cake than a muffin. This was my favorite item that I tried. Make sure to order a blueberry muffin! The sweet tea was served in a chilled glass, and tasted great. This drink would actually be refreshing, but needs to have less sugar included. Most of the food here was a bit too sweet for my liking. The potatoes were frozen food heated up, and not a fresh potato. Everyone at my table enjoyed their food.. Make sure to read the menu online before arriving. Prices here are expensive, but you do get good size portions and won't be hungary for awhile.
All of the staff members that I encountered were friendly and helpful. I didn't take long at all to get a table or my food after ordering. My waiter served us tea to go as well. This was a nice gesture on his part.
The inside of the restaurant needs some basic work done. My table was wobbly and somewhat dirty. I noticed some paint chips that came off the wall near my table.
If you are a fan of breakfast foods, then give...
Read moreWe have been going to and enjoying other Wild Eggs locations for years. Unfortunately, our first experience with this location was far below the quality of what we’ve experienced at other locations.
First, the food: it just wasn’t very fresh. They served us days’ old guacamole (pics of the unappetizing brown goo included in this review). They served old, wrinkled blueberries that tasted of mold. Just no. One positive was pancakes - they were very tasty.
Then, the staff/atmosphere: Some staff was friendly when we came in to pick up carry out. Front door host and the server we came across were genuinely nice and welcoming. Others not at all. Example: we told the young lady behind the carryout counter the name on our order, and she scowled and said “well, go ahead and take it.” Perhaps she was standoffish because we didn’t give an online tip, as I prefer to give a cash one (and in fact did so in this instance).
We get that people can have bad days, but making me and my young daughter uncomfortable, causing my 9-year old to ask me “why didn’t that teenager like us” after we left… is very uncool.
This is the closest location to us, but we find it worth a drive to...
