Dave's Hot Chicken — Restaurant in New Berlin

My boss recommended this place, so I went with my partner. She ordered a tender and a slider. At $4.50, a single tender feels a bit pricey, but the portions are generous. I ordered two tenders without fries or a drink. She went with medium heat, and I chose “very hot”—and very hot means very hot. I like spicy food, but this caught me off guard, especially since there wasn’t much to cut the heat aside from a soggy slice of white bread. That said, the brown sugar in the dry rub helped redeem the decision—it added some much-needed balance to the spice.

There was a bit of a wait—about 20 minutes from ordering to getting our food. I didn’t mind, but a group of high schoolers nearby was visibly impatient. It's surprising, considering how simple the menu is.

The setup feels like it’s somewhere between fast food and fast casual. The interior has a distinctly fast food feel—corporate, harsh lighting, and bold design choices—but the time it takes to prepare the food doesn’t match the speed you’d expect from a place like Raising Cane’s. I’m no expert, and clearly the model is working for Dave’s, but it struck me as an interesting contrast. A drive-thru might help, but it seems like the food isn’t quite built...

I went into Dave’s with high expectations and let me tell you, they were not met. The price is way too high, I paid $16.26 for a meal and don’t think you’re getting a drink with that because you’re not. I got a kid size water cup though, I only got up 4 times to fill it. Good thing I didn’t get the hot stuff cuz we’d be looking at a few more trips. Speaking of hot, it was uncomfortably hot in there, I think they were trying to sweat me out. To top it all off, the chicken is so mid. Will not be going back to waste my money. Oh, also I waited 20 minutes for my food and my buzzer never went off, I had to go up to the counter and find my food just sitting there. No “thanks for waiting” or nothing, unreal. Waited 30 minutes for food, which I understand, just before the lunch rush, but no one around was waiting around longer than 10 minutes. Walked up to the counter to ask when's my order up, after 25 minutes of just waiting, no one bats an eye at me. It took one of the staff to ask me what's up. I did get my order soon after, but being take out and having ordered two meals I wasn't automatically given a bag, not earth shattering but when you have to juggle two loose containers and a drink I shouldn't have asked for one. Ordered Cole slaw, never got it, was never asked what sauces I wanted either. I just calmly grabbed my things and gone. Daves chicken is the best, I will return, but not to the New Berlin Moorland location. Service can be better, not worth firing anyone over it, but better customer care would be appreciated. I don't think I'll be handing out tips again for this...
