Décor screams out; "we are not a chain restaurant!" It's clean but decorating was definitely done on a tight budget. Fortunately one does not go to a restaurant to eat the rummage sale artwork on the wall. The hours are also a bit odd; open for lunch and breakfast and Friday night fish-fries. We were there for the fish fry. Service was excellent There were only two people in front but they were both moving around cheerfully and checking on us frequently. The menu has a good assortment of fish fry meals with options for fried or baked, cod or shrimp. We ordered the 12 piece family meal. The Cod had a nice batter. I personally prefer nice chunky cod loins, These were fillets, but reasonably sized. There were a few smaller ones, but they made up for it by having well over a dozen pieces on the plate. Plenty of leftovers and and they passed the next day cold fish test ( if it doesn't taste greasy eaten cold it was fried at the right temp.) The taste was on a par with the better restaurants. They won't make you say; "That's the best fish I ever had!", but there is no cause for criticism either. Fries were nice fat crinkle cuts served nice and hot. The meal came with 3 potato pancakes. There is so much variation in potato pancake styles they are hard to compare. The taste was OK but there wasn't any crispiness. Individual 3 piece meals were about $15 each, The family meal we ordered was at least 4 times as much food as the individual meals and was $45, so a decent savings if there are 4 of you or you like leftovers. My only real criticism is the plastic cutlery. The fork would bend inserting it into a french fry or trying to use the side of it to cut off a piece of fish. They really need to make the jump to...
Read moreBad experience from the beginning. Female server sits us at a table and a minute later a male server approaches and tells us in a not so nice tone that there's a waitlist. We informed him that the other server seated us and his reply in the same condescending tone was that we made him look like an idiot; I informed him that the other server had, not us. We wondered why there was a waitlist anyways when half the tables and booths were empty. I guess they're just for looking at and not eating in.
Ok, he returns to take our drink orders. My brother orders a Sprite and coffee and when I order a Sprite, he informs me they dont have Sprite; I guess he just ignored the soda part of my brother's order. They dont have any white soda, so I just order water. Drinks arrive and I receive a tiny 5oz glass of water and my brother gets a full 12oz glass. Brother asks for creamer for his coffee and never receives it. My 2 gulp glass of water doesn't last very long and never gets refilled. Server was just not into his job and either needs training or should contemplate a career change.
The food was great though. I ordered the Rodeo omelette and it was fantastic and my brother enjoyed his breakfast also. There are some weird things, like toast is extra $$ and they dont have sourdough. They serve what appears to be pressed boiled potatoes that are pretty flavorless. Hash browns can be ordered for more $$ also.
Not sure if the quality of the food is enough to bring me back as it is somewhat pricey and the atrocious service was...
Read moreSunnyside up cafe: Not much signage or direction. When you walk in no friendly greeting or immediate direction to seating even when not busy.I ordered the 3 Egg Bacon Benny, which i subbed hash browns for mashed potatoes. My food came in 10min. The menu made it sound like you would get 3 eggs benedict on a plate but only recieved 2 English muffins with bacon that is practically made of fat laid across it with 3 supposed to be poached eggs and hollendaise sauce. However, I didnt even receive poached eggs. I recieved one poached, one completely boiled and one inbetween. I am also disappointed at the amount of sauce they sloppily thrown onto the plate and garnished with paprika in attempt at tricking your eye into thinking there will be more flavor than there realistically is none. Older waitress agreed and took my plate back to the kitchen, he would make me a whole new plate at 10:58am. About 10 minutes later produced a plate that resembles eggs benedict. However while the bacon was less fatty it was definitely burnt and i could have made better hash browns from the store in my own oven. $21.46 for 2 pieces of white toast an orange juice and this less than satisfactory meal. I can say the ONLY positive thing about this establishment that isnt a rip off is the polite service from one young waitress, who even under pressure remained polite and pleasant. It is a wonder how this place even remains with how over priced and...
