I definitely have mixed emotions about my initial visit. There was good and bad hence the 3 star rating for this experience. Let me start with the good. It's obvious that they prepare their food from scratch, from the corn tortillas to the house made sauces. I started with a pork belly taco at $6.50 per taco. I found the meat tasty and crispy as I like it; however that price gets you 5 small pieces of pork belly on a small tortilla. I always look for value when i dine out. Price, portion, taste and presentation. The taco fell short. They top the meat with a little Pico. That taco was screaming for a tasty sauce because it was a dry bite. I also ordered the chilaquiles on their red sauce. The tortilla chips were crispy and the sauce was bold and spicy. The plate comes with one egg and refried beans. I would liked to have a little more of the red sauce because again it was a dry bite. The egg and beans were fine. I won't comment on my wife's meal since I didn't experience it. She ordered cheese enchiladas with white rice. Their hit sauces were very good. Lastly, what I didn't like was that the owner showed up late to open the restaurant. They open at 11am and he arrived at approximately 11:15. Not sure why. It just doesn't make a good first impression. They did work fast to serve us and another first time customer. This restaurant has a very reputation coming from Schertz in their relocation to New Braunfels. Despite all this, I want to go back one more time and give them another shot so I try other menu items. Oh, one more thing, you really can't see the restaurant from 306 because their sign is...
Read moreFirst two experiences here were great! Very homely atmosphere, friendly staff and the food was absolutely DELICIOUS. First trip, I had the asada steak and my girlfriend ordered the al ajo sauteed shrimp (with plenty of garlic and butter sauce I think). Her meal was great, and my asada was literally second to none. Come to find out their beef is sourced from a farm in Mexico, which is pretty cool. Quality sourcing is always a plus. The pork belly appetizer was amazing as well, which included some fried chicharron and carnitas styles of pork, with half an avocado topped with pico de gallo. Second trip for breakfast I had the enfrijoladas, which are basically thick corn tortilla enchiladas stuffed with cheese and refried beans and covered with more cheese and some kind of sauce. Yes, it was as tasty as it sounds. They also offered a delicious spicy avocado sauce to complement the food, which I just topped on the enfrijoladas. These guys mean serious business when it comes to good food, but are as friendly and welcoming as can be toward the customer. Only slight downside is that they seemed a bit understaffed the first time around, but from conversation with the waiter last time this is an issue they are addressing by hiring more staff. This kind of thing can be expected from a brand new start-up! However, even if there is a bit of a wait, I would advise that it is well worth it. Thanks Sal-o-Mon! Keep up the good work and...
Read moreI will start by saying this is a restaurant you should definitely try! Not only for the amazing food and relaxed atmosphere but also for the friendly staff/ownership. I suggest that you go into this experience with an open mind and the idea that you are dining on a very authentic meal and forget expectations of other quick service and easy TexMex meals that are a dime a dozed in the area. Go to enjoy the authentic recipe's that obvious come from the chef's heart and life experiences. Go with patience as great food takes time to prepare especially when its this fresh. Have the staff pair a glass of wine with your meal, you wont regret it. We started with the Sal O Mon appetizer which was for sure worth the wait although the portion size was a little small. My wife had the chicken Tacos with rice which to me looked a little plain but she said the Fresh corn tortillas and juicy chicken are a perfect combination. I had the Filet Mignon Fajitas which was absolutely delicious and a must try. The flavors are light and simple but allow you to taste the freshness of the natural ingredients in the dishes. We did not have the desert but I did see that the table next to us ordered the Tres Leches which looked incredible. Maybe next time. We are new to the area and this was a pleasant surprise and just what was needed to end a long week. Hope you find this place as...
