I wanted to share my experience from our visit last night, as we had high expectations after hearing good things about your restaurant.
Upon arrival, my husband and I were greeted by the hostess after a brief wait. We were informed that there would be a 30-minute wait to be seated inside, which we accepted. The pleasant aromas from the kitchen only heightened our anticipation. However, after waiting for 45 minutes without receiving a text notification, I went inside to inquire about our status. I noticed several tables had been vacated but not cleaned, and it was concerning to see a table for six available while we were still waiting.
When I approached the hostess, a different staff member was at the front. She checked the system and acknowledged that we had been overlooked, claiming that a text had been sent, which I confirmed we did not receive. After this frustrating delay, we were finally seated.
While the wait staff was friendly, our experience continued to be disappointing. The table had not been properly wiped down, and we found old cutlery that we had to discard ourselves. My husband ordered catfish, while I opted for the fried shrimp. Although the portion sizes were generous, my shrimp was overcooked—extremely crunchy and chewy. I attempted to eat a few, but ultimately left them untouched. Despite this, our waitress did not inquire about the issue when she noticed I hadn’t eaten them.
Throughout our visit, it was disheartening to see that many staff members were more focused on socializing than attending to customers’ needs. Table cleaning seemed to be neglected, resulting in a crowded and uncomfortable environment for diners.
In total, we spent around $60 on our meal, but the experience did not reflect the value we expected. We left feeling...
Read moreI was craving some Cajun flavor and found this place on Google. I eat a specialized diet, so I can’t eat certain foods, but I can usually find something on any menu that works with my dietary restrictions. When we arrived we found more of an American cafe’ style decor than a Cajun themed restaurant. It was clean, but, if I’m being honest, it was a little bit boring. Their menu is very small with only a few offerings. There weren’t any low-carb offerings; which was to be expected in a Cajun food restaurant, but we both ordered the sausage links and the bisque thinking it was going to be bisque. Being a cook myself, I know how bisque is made and we considered it a safe choice. Be for-warned, they do not serve bisque here. What they actually serve is a seafood chowder full of corn and potatoes - this is not bisque. The sausage was overcooked and dry as well.
I know that my dietary needs are very different from the average diner, and I don’t expect a restaurant to “stop the presses” if you will, to make me something special ... but I do expect that a restauranteur know enough about their specialized cuisine to know the difference between bisque and chowder and to be transparent about what they are serving on their menu. We were very disappointed with our experience at this place.
As an aside, there was no crawfish available the day we were there so there was that. The service was okay, a little slow, but it was okay. There were only two other parties there on the day of our visit but it still took 20 minutes for someone to come by and take our drink order, and another 20-30 minutes to be served our food. I don’t think we will be visiting Comal Crawfish...
Read moreWould have loved to be able to give this place a shot. My husband called shortly before we came here in order to check the price per pound on the crawfish. They told him, but didn't bother to mention the fact that they were almost out, so by the time we arrived we were informed all the crawfish was gone. That certainly would have been a nice heads up. On top of that this was at 6:15 and the restaurant closes at 9pm. At the very least I would either write on the website, or let people know over the phone, that the crawfish is first come first serve and subject to running out extremely early. I think its pretty poor busines practice to name a place exclusively after crawfish, and then run out 2 and a half hours early. Maybe a better supplier, or a better manager who understand the needs for the season, is in order. EDIT: On our 3rd attempt going back we managed to eat. Second time was too busy. Still just ok I'd say. Maybe 2 stars. The crawfish was clearly cooked ahead of us ordering. It came out way too fast. Yeah, that's a bad thing with crawfish. It was either for another table or cooked in a larger batch and waiting for someone to order. It was super watery and soggy. Second batch slightly better. As for flavor, just ok. Spiciness level good, way too salty. Crawfish, like gumbo, is highly subject to the flavor preferred by the eater, this was not my type of crawfish. My family is from New Iberia and I grew up on crawfish boils every weekend during the season. I prefer the crawfish at The Branch. Fresh, large, great flavor,...
