I work locally and eat here regularly. Its been “aright” sushi, not bad but not great, but the location made up for it. Some days it’s better than others, when the woman is working I’m greeted nicely, enthusiastically even, because of how often I order. When the gentleman answers or helps me it’s impolite and unprofessional. She usually makes up for him. Today, today was the LAST straw. I called to order pickup as always. The first time I called I got no greeting, just a click, and a man yelling in his native language to someone else and I had to hang up. Second time I called he was unknowledgeable about the menu and what I was ordering. I brushed it off as a communication issue, be it the phone or what have you. I pick it up and this man took 5 minutes to greet us, not an employee in the store, when he did come up he still didn’t greet us, looks at the slip, quickly mumbles the total and couldn’t process what change I was due, all while never greeting us, acknowledging us as customers, and while being on the phone. At this point I’m beyond bothered and upset and flat out said I would not be ordering unless the female owner was helping me. I thought that was the end of my troubles, I was wrong. I start eating my sushi and the first bite is straight tuna tendon, chewy, unflavored, tendon. I can’t eat it. Assumed it was just a poor cut, more than 75% of the pieces I had was tendon and inedible. The few pieces I did have that were actual meat were COVERED in scales. Not skin, individual scales, the food wasn’t prepped properly, or handled properly and it was disgusting. The entire meal was trash. Don’t waste your money on mediocre sushi when there are so many better places available, even locally. I will never be...
Read moreStarting the 25, May 2023 and finishing 24, June 2023, I completed a 6700 mile road trip from Santa Maria, CA (residence) to Easton, PA and back. It was mainly for my 60th college reunion (Lafayette) and to see friends (maybe for the last time) in the area of my home town of Bethlehem, PA. One of my best buddies lives in Chalfont, PA with his family. I visited them on June 9th after my college reunion. They wanted me to try take-out food from Sakana. They went for Chinese, I opted for Japanese.
My reason for Japanese cuisine is that I have a lot of experience in sampling their food. I worked on a research vessel out of Yokosuka for 4 months in the 60's. I also tried out for the Hanshin (Osaka) Tigers professional baseball team during that period. I have been to Japan twice in the 80's to attend weeklong science conferences. I have been to all 4 of Japan's major islands (Hokkaido, Honshu, Kyushu and Shikoku). Lastly California has a lot of Japanese restaurants and I wanted to compare Sakana's dishes.
My order of sushi (vinegar flavored rice rolls garnished with fish) and sashimi (raw fish) was as good as anything I have eaten in Japan or California. The seaweed salad was the best I have ever had.
As an extra note, I have never encountered a restaurant that had both Chinese and Japanese cuisine. Also this take-out restaurant has an extensive and complete menu in...
Read moreI have ordered from here before and had great food and great service. However, tonight was a different story. We called in a delivery order, the owner/manager was extremely rude and hung up abruptly without any type of confirmation of our order.
We were not sure if the order was taken or if it would be delivered, so we called back-no answer...
I then drove to the restaurant to pick up our order, only to be ignored by the manager/owner while standing at the front desk for at least 5 minutes while he stapled receipts together... Hello, I'm here!
He finally acknowledged me while he was yelling at his delivery driver...poor guy. He said he did have our order, and he was glad we came to pick it up- because it was a "very busy night" I looked around and saw 6 whole people in the restaurant! Hmmm.
In closing, the food was good, but the service was horrible, therefore we will not be returning there anytime soon.
Sorry guys, but service is what brings people back...best of...
