Firstly, I’m a major “foodie” and I LOVE Chinese food. I was originally introduced to Noodle Gourmet back in 2008 by my nurse while at RWUJH. I dreamed about your Shrimp & Lobster Sauce with your pillowy-Chow Fun noodles, but I left the area and parking is a BEAR. When food delivery service expanded their mileage, I quickly ordered but today reminded me why I haven’t ordered from here in awhile. Starting off with the delivery - Packaging is awful. When it gets to you, sauces are open and spilled all over, dietary requests aren’t followed, and careful when you open your containers because whatever is in it, spills all over you and anything else in the vicinity. Missing egg roll (again). BOTH (ordered 2) Steamed pork dumplings came with a container (inside the container the dumplings are in) with the top smashed and halfway off, spilling this red dye liquid all over the food. No regular soy sauce offered/included in bag. In the garbage they go. I’ve never seen wonton soup (again) come with cloudy broth (which tasted like bean sprouts water….) and half the QT container was filled with bean sprouts. I didn’t order “bean sprout” soup with wontons. In the garbage it goes. Chicken & broc for dietary reasons was requested with white sauce and it came in brown sauce. In the garbage it goes. Egg drop soup looked delish, tasted like egg drop ware soup with a dash of salt. Eck - in the garbage it goes. I remember your chow fun noodles were always the best around. I ordered the shrimp & lobster sauce chow fun. Lobster sauce was tasty, but the shrimp were overcooked, they were hard to swallow. Your pillowy-wonderful chow fun noodles were a solid block, and there was no separating them. In the garbage it goes. Not even going to try the general Taos….. I’m going to chock this up to a $120+ loss and there are soooo many Chinese food establishments that do a better job. Reading all the reviews again today - sounds like this place needs a complete overhaul. Thoughtfulness all around is needed. Driving through the campus recently, there are so many NEW places to eat from the original fat cats to grease traps. Whatever your flavor, there are more choices. Just something to think about. Sorry….. we...
Read moreFood was average at best, but I'm giving this place a 1 star mainly due to their service and how they interact with their customers. Been here on two occasions and both times had an issue with the owner. First time I came here it was with a group of people. One person in our party had a drink with them which they purchased at another store. I understand restaurant have polices that regard bringing in outside food and drinks but the owner still came over to us and told the person in my group that they were not allow the drink the drink while at the restaurant. This I felt was a bit much given that it was a single drink. I would understand maybe if we brought a liter soda or a case of beer. My second time there a person from our group finished their meal before the rest of us and asked to have the rest of the food wrapped. While the rest of us were still eating my friend decided they wanted to eat more of the food that was wrapped up. The owner came over to us and told her that she wasn't allowed to eat out of the to go container while being at the table. That was the last and final time I ever ate at this restaurant. I understand certain rules are in place to protect the buisness and the customers but I personally felt the owner was a bit much. Overall if you are looking for good service you won't find it here. The main reason they still have business is the fact they are located right by the college and they get many students coming in. The best thing they did for thier business is to accept meal swipes. I would say a majority of thier buiness is from college students with meal plans. If your looking for a average Chinese restaurant just make sure not to bring any outside food. There are so many other great restaurants in New Brunswick that offer great food and exceptional service. Don't bother with this place and go support another restaurant that deserves...
Read moreA very popular Rutgers community Chinese-take out and dine-in restaurant that is relatively true to the roots - a hole-in-the-wall type of restaurant, as well. I know the owner personally. He and his family own the restaurant - small business. Please support. Definitely worth a trip, despite whether it may be very relaxed and simple of an ambiance and environment overall.... the focus is the taste, quality, flavor of the cuisine as well as the service that is responsive and yet easy going. A whole bunch of Rutgers students come here as like a "regular With pandemic, there may be limitations nowadays. I have been going to this restaurant for years since early 2010. Relatively decent food quality, taste, flavor, as well as affordability. Street parking and metered parking only. You may be able to find a parking lot but it may be metered parking or pay at the kiosk. Family-owned business. Pretty authentic, I would say. They also have a Chinese menu! Portion sizes are pretty great for the price, as well. Worth your bucks! Their interior design overall is pretty old and outdated, nonetheless. Though, there is plenty of seating with tables. No booths. Yet, this may be their style of a resemblance of Cantonese style and tradition just like over in Southern China with the old-fashioned chairs and tables and the intriguingcarpet. Their bubble teas are of endless, limitless sorts of flavors and styles - hot or cold/chilled/iced, shaved iced, with milk, just the tea, tapioca bubbles, jelly bits, etc. The one drawback is the lack of available, free, and ample parking on the streets as Rutgers campus and downtown area tends to be pretty busy and packed with students. The parking is metered and somewhat...
