Definitely recommend trying this ramen shop.

The broth - We tried the tonkatsu and miso ramen. Both broths are very milky and lighter when compared to other pork based broths. It's also less salty and less oily which is a nice surprise. A bit more umami would really make this pop.

The toppings - Each ramen gets a full egg which is much appreciated. The egg is perfectly cooked with a nice flavor on the outside and soft yolk on the inside. There are 3 slices of pork included and it's very tender. The pork has a slightly smoky flavor too. The bamboo shoots have a a great bite and clean taste.

The noodles - Pretty typical for wavy ramen noodles. The noodles are bouncy and cooked with good timing.

Fried chicken - Pretty juicy chicken. The sauce on the side is unique - a little sour and a good spicy kick. The sauce makes this dish more unique compared to typical karage in Japan and a nice spin on traditional flavor. With take out, it has a typical issue of losing the crispy outside. Tough problem resolve.

Overall packaging - The take out container for the ramen is very, very smartly designed. The broth is separated from everything by having 2 layers. This keeps the bag smaller and also uses less plastic while making sure nothing gets soggy. Well done on this!

Since the ramen shop is directly on George Street, picking up take out is a little challenging since there's no parking directly outside. You'll have to park on the side streets...

I didn't know what to expect at a ramen joint in a college town in New Brunswick, NJ. Typically, my experiences haven't been that good at an Asian anything near a college town outside of major cities. When my son told me that he decided to work here because of the food, I had to try it out (especially while he was working there). To my surprise, this place was comparable to any ramen joint in NYC, including St. Mark's area. Their takoyaki was crunch on the outside and had real plump chewy octopus inside with proper bonito flakes on top (better than most places in NYC). Kara age (fried chicken) was solid with delicious chili sauce. Edamame was little too salty for my taste, but was good nonetheless (my wife could not stop eating them). Ramens were solid. Tonkotsu ramen had more straight noodles than wavy ones, but that is what a proper tonkotsu ramen should have, but it was missing shredded red pickled gingers, but when I asked my son, I mean the wait staff, they brought it to me right away. With it, it was (almost) perfect. My wife's Osaka beef noodles reminded me of Taiwanese style beef noodles and Cantonese style beef noodles. If they served it with spicy chili oil, it would have been perfect. I am surprised that there is this type of quality ramen served in a college town of Rutgers New Brunswick. I wish that I had type of ramen joint when I went to college. Kids these days...

First of all, when we got there the waitress told us all seats are occupied, we need to wait couple mins, and we waited. Then this other waiter said there is a whole table empty, it was hanged with employees’ cloth and all they had to do was remove the clothes, so we waited for nothing. I ordered taro bubble tea and they forgot sugar, and I said whatever, I can use less sugar. Then I ordered number 4 with EXTRA pork, and it came out with 3 pieces of pork, turns out she forgot my extra pork. And my wife ordered extra bamboo, but it came out same amount of bamboo as mine(I didn’t order extra bamboos). I tried to wash my hand and both bathrooms’ sinks are broken. And without apologizing for forgetting my order she charged me twice for Chashu(Pork). Luckily my wife saw it on the receipt, otherwise she would charge me extra. Again, Without apology she told me she can give me another receipt AFTER I give her my credit card. At this point I just want to get the hell out of here and never come back again, so I paid and left. Food is definitely overpriced, pathetic portions. Service, there is no service, she didn’t even add water once to our cups when all our water cups are empty. I would give 0 star if I can. Surprised they are still in business, mind blowing experience in a very very bad way. Whoever wants to come here please turn around and go...

I’m a fan, I love this place! I’ve been waiting for this restaurant to open since I moved to New Brunswick in 2019. Due to the COVID lockdown, they only do pick up. But the food is epic!!! Food quality — Rakki Ramen is the most authentic ramen you’ll find in the neighborhood. Compared to Ramen Nagomi, Rakkii Ramen is closer to the kind of stuff you’ll find in Japan. (Plus, the last time I was at Ramen Nagomi, I got food poisoning. I haven't been back since.) I ordered the miso ramen and added extra tofu. It is comparable to Ippudo Ramen’s Shiromaru Motaji. The broth is so rich and their bowls are very filling. Noodles could be a little firmer, but apart from that, no complaints at all. It hits the spot! Price — My bowl was $16.50. Dude. Not a bad price for the best ramen for miles. Overall, I think this place deserves a 5-star rating. There’s a sore lack of authentic Japanese food in New Brunswick, maybe New Jersey, especially for ramen. So, as far as I’m concerned, Rakki Ramen is a godsend. Writing this review just makes me crave it again. Hope your experience is as satisfying as mine was!
