We were out in the land of Connecticut of New Canaan and needed to find a lunch place before an architectural tour. It seems the quaint but small downtown area eateries was more geared to dinner time event. Ching’s Table was conveniently open. The service was friendly with a few other patrons in the restaurant. The interior was a interesting mix of traditions with Asian themed décor thrown in for good measure. But overall it was bright and open dinning space.
This is a one stop shop of Asian Fusion cuisine. You got Chinese, Chinese, Thailand, Japan, Indonesia and Malaysia. We opted for the lunch time deal appetizer and main pre-pixe offerings. I started with the Wonton Soup and my friend got the Thai crab cakes to start and Crispy snapper and Asian Grilled chicken. Is the Chicken Asian because it sat on top of Bokchoy and rubbed with Lemongrass?
The wonton soup was bland and watery. The crab cakes was decent but tasteless. The entrees were plated nicely. The fish was crispy. The chicken in a sauce was slightly sweet. The two looked like the same dish and sauce except for different protein. Overall, the meal was reasonable. We didn't expect much in the land of fussy whiteville eaters in Connecticut and we are spoiled with great Asian cuisine in the city. Ching’s Table is a good attempt catering to the local clientele with bland Asian food with ingredients that are familiar yet keeping the menu...
Read moreNot coming back again. Our waitress who was also the maitre d was beyond rude to a point as if she didn't want to bother with us. I had to flag her down to ask would she recommend the fish or the chicken dish on the lunch menu or which dish was most ordered. She replied that one is fish and one is chicken they both good. She never came back to the table to check on us once we placed our order. Another waitress pass by so I asked if I can have some chopsticks for my appetizers and she didn't answer me and walked off so after we ate the appetizers, she passed by again and threw down two pair of chopsticks on the table. Granted it's not a high-end restaurant but it's still in the service industry. What really was crazy it's the fact that she came by and took my plate but I haven't done eating! The place was not packed and nobody was waiting for a table yet from the second we sat down to the second we left we were rushed. I still gave her a 20% tip even though she did not deserved it. Needless to say I am very disappointed because based on the reviews I was expecting more. We came here because it was the same ownership as Uncle 7 in the Sono Mall but very different in food and service. I would definitely go back to Uncle 7 in Norwalk but never...
Read moreStay away from this place! I called and made a reservation under my name, got there 20 minutes later and the very-busy-to-smile hostess didn't have my name in the hand written list... Well, that happens. Anyway, they gave us a table and forgot about us for a good 15 minutes. The server never asked us if we wanted water, but thank goodness he brought us three diet cokes. I asked for straws, but I only got one (is it hard to bring straws for everybody?). We ordered food and waited for 50 minutes to get it while others, who came much later, got their food and drinks served just promptly. I wanted to get some water at last and got tired of constantly looking for our server so I called another server, but she didn't even turn her head... Well, after 50 minutes we got our food and it was, unfortunately, of poor quality -- over fried, over sweetened and just tasteless. Will never come back. Terrible service + tasteless food + greasy...
