BonChon is a popular Korean fried chicken chain with their headquarters based in Texas. The first U.S. BonChon restaurant was in New Jersey. It was founded in 2002 and there are locations found in the U.S. and internationally. The first time I had BonChon was in Massachusetts and I fell in love with it. At this location in New Haven, CT, the restaurant had a high ceiling and a cool bar. The service was good and the food came out fast. BonChon is known for their double fried chicken wings. I had the 10 pc wings meal with pickled radishes. I got half-half of Yangnyeom and spicy flavors. I love the spicy, it definitely has a kick. I also love the Yangnyeom, which had notes of soy sauce from what I tasted. I like to get a side of white rice and Kewpie mayo to complete the meal. My family also got the takoyaki fried octopus balls; it's topped with Kewpie mayo, katsu sauce, and scallions. The balls were super good, crispy on the outside and creamy on the inside. My son's had the plain udon noodles which came out in a hot pot, so it was boiling; it satisfied their picky taste buds. My family and I had a tasty lunch there. I like the location because it's near a bubble tea place and a Korean corn dog spot. It's also walking distance to many other attractions. We parked at a nearby parking garage. Overall, I'm a fan, we had a great lunch, and will be back again soon.

I have been twice so far and I love it!! We go straight to the bar!! There is always a wait for seating in the dining area. The bar is well stocked and the bartenders are very helpful and patient. Patience is needed when dealing with me as I tend to be very indecisive. I asked for food and drink suggestions!! Steph was awesome!! Very helpful, she helped us make some excellent choices. She also makes great drinks!! So of course we had to have the chicken! It was crispy and flavorful! The soy garlic and the spicy flavors are delicious! My favorite is the spicy tenders!!! We also had the House Fried rice with chicken, Korean Tacos, Shrimp Shumai and Salmon avocado ball. All of which did not disappoint my taste buds! The 2 best appetizers so far were Salmon avocado ball and shrimp shumai! The Blood Orange Margarita is sooo tasty!! They also have beer domestic and IPAs. Not a huge selection but great options! Great place to watch sports as well. Great music which is a plus for me!! We really enjoyed our night!

We stopped in here while visiting New Haven. It wasn’t for a full meal, just for a little snack. It was worth it. Clean with lots of tables and a great staff. There was a TV which was showing a baseball game at the time. There’s street parking available with meters, but you have to be lucky to get a spot depending the time you come. There are a few lots in the area. The food was really good. We ordered the soy garlic wings which were very crispy. It was almost like eating fried chicken with garlic sauce on it. The fries are also very crispy and delicious. We also got the shrimp shumai. I really liked the sauce on top, the shumai was just OK. It might’ve tasted better if it was steamed instead of fried. That’s my mistake. Overall a good value with some tasty menu choices.

I came here with three of my friends, I have to say in the past this place was amazing. the server we had was very impolite, she spoke at us. it’s very rude to speak to someone without respect in a work field where you’re obligated to be a peoples person. after having our orders taken by this woman name “Gina” I saw her being polite to another group of people, who were not of the same skin Tone of myself but was Caucasian. I am a woman who identifies African American as far as my race goes. I did not understand why she gave me and my guests very hard time. her Tone of voice screamed don’t come back here you’re not welcomed. she did not want to serve us truly. racism is only repeating itself. To the owner of this location, Gina makes your restaurant a very dark place. She was very rude when taking our order. I watch her give two of my friends attitudes and make faces and them while they ordered. They wanted to up and leave but we didn’t. Moving forward, you should terminate this employee. She’s truly bad for business and she will hold you back. She made it seem like we didn’t belong in this restaurant. It was traumatizing #TerminateGina

Edit: After such a terrible experience at this location i would’ve hoped to have someone reach out but I’ve been ignored. Seeing that someone left them a review and the owner responded to their review but not mine shows that this establishment must have a lot of racist people running the place. I’m guessing the owner is definitely racist. As an African American Woman, the Labor board needs to close this place down. Racism is only repeating itself. Ginas parents shouldn’t be proud to raise her, as well as the owner. Shame on bonchon for treating people of color like we don’t belong. very nasty environment.

Edit: I’m almost so certain you’re not addressing the issue. You addressed a positive review before responding to mine. I hope the labor board shuts down this establishment. you didn’t offer me to reach out. As a owner you should be ashamed of yourself for letting Gina tarnish your...

On a rainy Saturday evening, I waited in line for more than 20 minutes to receive my take-out order of two servings of drum sticks, one soy sauce, and the other spicy. A few comments about this location's Korean fried chicken:

1- They are supposed to be made on the spot fresh to make sure the meat inside in moist and juicy. I found the inside of my drum sticks -- oversized -- dry and tough. I believe they were fried earlier and refrigerated. Then, thawed and fried the second time when my order was placed.

2- The crispy and light outside that people rave about Korean fried chicken was soaked through and through in their soy sauce based sauce. As other reviewers have mentioned, the soy sauce at this location is too salty. It was also way too dark as well. Lighter color soy sauce is also available, not just the Kikkoman regular soy sauce.

3- The spicy sauce also had problems as well. I have had spicy sauce Korean chicken from other locations and it does not have as much overpowering paprika powder as this location puts into their mix. It overpowers all other taste in the sauce. As it was with the soy sauce based sauce, the chicken was completed soaked in this sauce, turning the outside soggy.

I am grateful that my old country's cuisine is being received so well in parts outside of large urban centers. I wish to see this business and others based on Korean cuisine and culture thrive. I never expected to see something like this at all. But, I must share my opinion that the kitchen staff needs further training in delivering a high quality product for the high price charged. I am hoping to see other Korean Fried Chicken brands like BBQChicken land in New...
