I thoroughly enjoyed everything about this restaurant. It is very small with a few 2 and 4 tops and two large family style tables that seat about 16 people each. We were a party of 4 seated at one of the larger tables. The service was lovely. One of the owners was our server and she was extremely knowledgeable about her food and the Italian region it was from and very proud of her restaurant. Portions are not overly sized and service is not rushed. We started with the figs and the toasted ciabatta bread appetizer. Both were great. The figs were tender, the stuffing creamy and the balance of the two ate very savory, the appetizer was perfectly balanced and not sweet. The ciabatta appetizer also good but not memorable. The lasagna was probably the best I have ever had. It is vegetarian and changes daily. Ours was a broccoli lasagna but I didn’t really taste any broccoli, it was simply creamy flavorful and melted in your mouth . I will go back again just to try another version of this. We also had the pasta special. The pasta had a great chew to it. They serve wine and have several choices of white and red and the prices are very reasonable. They do not make their own pasta but we were told it is fresh and made locally. This restaurant is not in the little Italy section of the city but for me has much more authentic Italian food and was a lovely dining experience with traditional Italian food in a quaint atmosphere and definitely worth a trip...
Read moreDined at Skappo to celebrate our anniversary. Genuinely one of the most memorable dining experiences of our lives. The ambiance is so cozy and makes you feel like you’re in an Italian home. We had the stuffed fig dish, momma’s Sunday sauce, The lasagna, and risotto with pistachio. Everything was simply perfect, full of flavor, and brought me straight back to my travels in Italy. The stuffed fig dish especially should win awards.
This place is truly a gem that’s owned by a kind and passionate family, and that’s evident from the moment you walk in. The service isn’t just great, it’s literally like being invited into an Italian home for Sunday dinner. During our meal, the grandmother came out from the kitchen to introduce her adorable grandson (~8 years old?) who was helping out tonight around the restaurant and to thank everyone for coming. We’ve never felt this much love at a restaurant ever before, and we cannot wait to come back to try the rest of the menu (and the fig dish again), and keep coming back for more.
Thank you Skappo for a wonderful dinner and evening! Please keep doing what you’re doing - the world needs more of places...
Read moreWhen asked, Mom requested that we celebrate her 76th birthday on Feb 15th at Skappo because she had learned of the restaurant after taking an Italian class from Anna (Momma) a few years back.
What a memorable and heartwarming experience! Anna embraced Mom with infectious joy and made it known to all that my amazing Italian/American mother was there for her compleanno. The food tasted just like home, and we couldn't feel more welcome. The music, the laughter, the food, oooohhh the food, the wine, and the overall atmosphere were all unforgettable. Anna's youngest son has the voice of an angel, and her other children are equally as affectionate. Everything was exceptional and authentic.
My boyfriend and I will be going back to Italy for a fourth time in May for my 50th B-day. Dining at Skappo reminded me of why we chose to spend another vacation in such an incredibly irresistible and joyous culture. Thank you to the entire Skappo family for your hard work, generosity, and charm.
