Attempted to dine in shortly before our train we had to catch. We walked in and it was a very nice, kind of upscale dining area, and there were only two other parties dining in, since it was on the earlier side of the evening. We placed our order and planned to eat for a few minutes, but also get to-go boxes and the check as soon as the food came out. But 20 minutes later, our food still hadn't come out and we weren't going to be able to dine in at all. We asked to have our food packaged in to-go containers instead of plated, and paid the bill so we could just leave with our food once it came out. Another 10 minutes later, still no food and it was coming down to the wire. Finally, we couldn't wait any longer and we needed to be on the way out the door to get to our train. Just as we were getting up to tell our server to just cancel our order and issue me a refund, she came out with our bag of food. Relieved that we would still have dinner and be able to make our train, we thanked her as we took the bag and made our way to the train. We ate our food on the train. My boyfriend said his Pad See Ew was decent, but I wasn't terribly impressed with my Drunken Noodles. It was greasy and overcooked. The noodles were one mushy pile. And barely any flavor except just spicy (it's supposed to be a spicy basil sauce, but I could not taste any basil). I didn't see any reason our food should have taken that long to get out to us when they didn't seem too terribly busy. Maybe they had a lot of to-go orders, too, but there was only one person who came in to pick up a to-go order while we were there. Our server was very nice and understanding, and she did her best to get the kitchen to get our food out sooner, but I guess there wasn't much she could do. (One review here said something about how good food takes extra time, but this wasn't good enough to warrant that long of a wait. I've had better Drunken Noodles and only needed to wait 10 minutes at peak dinner rush.) We should have picked another place for dinner.

There are Pho restaurants that happen to serve other Vietnamese items, and Vietnamese restaurants that happen to serve Pho. This is the latter. You can tell because the menu doesn't have a whole page dedicated to every configuration and combination of meats one can order. The total Pho choices can be counted on one hand, which is a red flag for Pho snobs. That said, it is a serviceable soup. The meat is tender enough and the broth is acceptable, but nothing stellar or exciting. In a proper Vietnamese neighborhood this would be deservedly neglected but since choices are thin on the ground here in New Haven, it hits the spot on cold and rainy days. If the food is lackluster, the service is excellent. I was seated and waited on promptly and had no issues keeping my water glass full. And since the restaurant was undergoing extremely loud construction that day, the receptionist discounted my meal as a courtesy. I didn't mind the noise since I A) brought headphones and B) knew what I was committing too, but it showed a level of consideration that was above and beyond.

We decided to come here on a whim on a Wednesday around 1:30pm only to find the entire place devoid of customers. Despite this, we stayed and ordered drinks and summer rolls to split. My partner also ordered a bowl of pho. The rolls were fine, but the pho had a bland broth. The hostess who welcomed us was lovely, but our waiter left us with a sour taste. At one point we asked for spoons, and he immediately got us plates and never returned, so we had to track him down to clarify that we wanted spoons. Additionally, he charged us extra because when my partner ordered the pho that already came with meat, the waiter tricked him into ordering extra meat despite the back and forth of my partner confirming that meat was already included. It seems too that there was a language barrier, which shouldn't be an issue, but from the level of service, it seemed like it was this waiter's first day on the job. We were looking for some comfort food, but left feeling frustrated at this experience.

I could say is that the food was really good, I did like the pho Beef and my family did too, including the dumplings and that the environment was very peaceful and positive. It was really nice that my family came with me to enjoy and have some time. Although something happened wrong in the end and I didn’t wanted to be rude but I feel like everyone has to know. I remember that my family was alone in the restaurant (along with me) and we were the last ones in here to leave from the restaurant, a waitress (female) came to me while I was signing, she was acting different, and then out of nowhere she was being rude toward me saying “Oh why you didn’t give me tip. You don’t always give me tip when you and family come around.”

I was confused, nervous and scared. This has never happened to us in this restaurant, especially when I came here sometimes, I do leave tips most of the time. So I don’t know what the waitress was talking about.

I had to tell my sister and that she told the waitress that I wasn’t finished and she had to wait patiently. The waitress kept repeating rudely that “why no leave the tip whenever You came to the restaurant” and then my sister got upset and told her that we always leave the tip and that I do leave tip when writing down on the receipt, if we couldn’t, we leave the cash tip on the table. It never happened to us like that, my sister said we’re not coming back to the restaurant ever again.

So that’s what happened, we were having a great time but then the mood ruined it because of the waitress being rude to us at the end. I did leave the tip for the waitress, although, I wish I shouldn’t have before, after being rude at the end and rushing for us to leave.

If she was having a bad time I can understand that the waitress needs the money, but I wish the she could’ve done better by her actions and not happened that ever again to future customers, what ever happened to make the customers happy and have them an experience a good time for them and enjoying the...

I will NOT be visiting again. Service was horrible. They brought 2 water glasses for 3 people. We had to ask for another... And never got it. After we already had an appetizer (chicken wings), and the main dishes had been served, we still had no napkins or utensils. We had to call the server over to ask. Then she brought 3 napkins and 3 forks. The entire Yemeni portion of the menu was unavailable, but instead of telling us, they let me order then tell me they didn't have the dish... 3 times in a row. When I was going to try for a 4th, they finally told us the Yemeni chef wasn't at work. The Thai food we ordered (pad see ew, krapow with lamb, and fried rice with beef "Thai sausage") was not great. It had very little flavor. As someone who lived in Thailand for 20 years, this was subpar American-style Thai food. Also, the "Thai sausage" was not something that they have anywhere in Thailand. I have no idea what kind of sausage it was, but it had zilch to do with Thailand. Having said all that, the decor and atmosphere are nice. Not anything spectacular, but pleasant enough. And the portions were large.

All-in-all, I would not recommend Pho Thai to anyone. I know I'll certainly not be eating...
