The Official City Beignet Read Time 3-5 minutes

As I sit and write this review my mouth is watering for the powdery goodness and my mind is saying say no to carbs. What can I say? A lot of course. Now let’s get into it. This particular Cafe Du Monde is located in City Park and is nestled in between a playground and the Sculpture Gardens. The scenery surrounding this location is enough to attract a tour or two. I personally would call this a prime location, because it easily attracts easy customers like me the children and tourist lol. Now I may not be a child but I have 2 beautiful girls, who love beignets and a childlike heart with a tourist attraction. I love touring my own city, because it is unique and full of great eateries. Please excuse my side tracking and bragging on New Orleans.
Commercial break over back to this in depth review. My girls and I were on one of our usual park escapades and decided we wanted beignets as our post play snack. I playfully tried to thwart their attempts at this sugary satisfaction, but me being a sweet treat lover I hastily complied.
We walked up to this cutely colored building with canopy table set ups. There were options for both indoor and outdoor seating and also indoor and outdoor purchasing options. I thought to myself “WOW they really know how to manage crowd control, because this is an ingenious set up.” Inside there was a gift shop that contained Cafe Du Monde themed clothing and collectibles. There was also a clean public restroom, which is actually pretty typical for City Park attractions.
After being distracted by the views for quite sometime my daughters brought me back to focus and dragged me to the outdoor counter. They demanded gently “two orders of beignets please” and I ordered a set for myself and an iced Cafe Au Lait. I must say I am in love with Cafe Du Monde’s coffee because of the complex French chicory and coffee blend. If you are a coffee enthusiast such as myself I guarantee you won’t be disappointed. The smell along will knock you into heaven and back down to earth to finish the entire cup. Just another side note. It maybe a little strong for novice coffee drinkers. But to each their own.
Now to the main attraction, THE BEIGNETS. These beignets are so delicious it will make you want to smack yo mama; however, of course you shouldn’t lol. They are so airy, so light, so crispy, so desirable. I want one right now! The crispiness married with the massive amount of powdered sugar is pure marital bliss. Just another side note. Please be prepared to get powdered sugar everywhere and just know if you don’t end up with some in your hair and on your back you didn’t really complete the assignment. The assignment being you truly enjoying an authentic New Orleans beignet. So I implore you to journey onto this mission, because this is an amazing adventure you wouldn’t want to miss!

Read moreWhat a lifesaver! It was a seriously hot and humid day. I had just hiked around one side of the City Park (I'm disabled and I can only handle a bit at a time), and realized I was unprepared. It took a bit longer to get to the park than I thought and the meal I had eaten had seemed to burn off about 20 minutes in. I got slightly panicked so asked around. To my surprise there was a Cafe Du Monde right over the bridge! It was such a perfect location! Okay, maybe not perfect if you're using a walker or wheelchair because that bridge is NOT an easy task! However, getting over it was worth it. For those who are driving, it turns out you can actually drive up to it and the parking lot is located right across from it. I was so excited to finally get my first New Orleans Beingets and Cafe Au Lait I had heard so much about. Friends and family have brought me back boxes to make on my own from home, but they failed miserably apparently because they tasted absolutely nothing like these! These were much bigger than I thought they'd be and loaded with powdered sugar. The Cafe Au Lait was wonderful! Cold, full-bodied, and not at all watered down. There is an outdoor order window and seating with a lovely view. It was so hot so I chose to eat inside with air conditioning. Surprisingly one of the best things about this particular location was the staff. There was the sweetest girl who spent time chatting with me. Going there semi-solo (me and my service dog), it was nice to have someone to talk with. This was the icing on the perfect park experience! I can't...
Read moreMy first time in New Orleans and everyone who knows suggests Cafe du Monde for the beignets. This cafe is located in a beautiful park. Surrounded by lush trees with courtyards. They know how to handle large crowds by offering 2 areas you can order from. Inside you can see the magic of the cafe come to life by watching chefs make hot fresh beignets, dusting heaps of powdered sugar atop freshly fried dough. Famous for their chicory root coffee, I opted for a Cafe o lait and was the perfect beverage to accompany piping hot beignets. Their sweet iced tea is like southern comfort, the way my brother puts it - it’s sweet tea if you can’t really taste the tea, and he’s right! It was absolutely delicious. Outside we lucked out finding a table and chairs with a perfect view of the park, and a live musician. There’s even a gift shop inside the cafe full of Cafe Du Monde trinkets and treasures, a great way to support the business and bring a gift back to friends who weren’t as lucky as you to visit. You can take home some chicory coffee and beignets mix! The price points are wonderfully reasonable. We ordered 3 bags of beignets that came with 3 beignets and a cup load of powdered sugar. Alongside a cafe o’lait and and iced coffee, our total was around $20. Plenty of parking nearby the park area and right around the cafe as well. The employees do an amazing job at wiping powdered sugar from the tables after guests enjoy...
