My sister's Bach party and I stayed right in the heart of the French Quarter. After a fun, friendly, slightly drunk, chaotic night on Bourbon Street, we were looking for something more chill. We heard that Frenchmen Street offers a good amount of jazz music, so we headed over. Funny enough, we were a little late getting there and ended up at Café Negril because most places were either super packed or had a cover charge. (Feel free to look them up for my review!) - Dope live reggae band and no cover charge! Overall, Frenchmen Street was quite a fun experience. We enjoyed the lively music and vibrant atmosphere. Read moreLast night was good but not great. The music screen and vibe was good, better than Bourbon Street and the street much cleaner. I think the music is getting worse over the past several years as I was not that impressed. Perhaps they need to pay the musicians better to attract higher class artists. ? I do think this is a good venue for younger inexperienced musicians to hone their skills. I did not hear much actual old style New Orleans jazz that I live and miss. Read moreFrenchmen Street is a must-visit in New Orleans. It feels like the adult version of Bourbon Street, full of great music and energy but with a more relaxed, authentic vibe. The live music is some of the best in the city, and most venues don’t even charge a cover.
There’s also a great outdoor vendor area with local artists selling unique pieces and plenty of things to browse or buy. The whole area is walkable, easy to explore, and far less chaotic than Bourbon Street.
