My son and I decided to eat here after touring the museum. We were promptly and pleasantly greeted and immediately seated. Our server came within one or two minutes, took our drink order ( we both ordered iced tea) and since we had already decided on our meal took our food order. I ordered a shrimp poboy. Within in a few minutes our drinks and food arrived. Food was very good. During our meal my son son had finished his glass of tea and I had just a bit left of mine. Our server came back to our table, asked my son if he would like a another tea. He replied yes. The server didn't ask me about a refill at all. She took his glass, came back in a few minutes with his refill and our check. By that time I had finished my tea. She still never asked me about a refill. We finished our meal and waited on her to return to our table to take our check for payment and a refill on my tea. She never did. She walked by our table several times never looking our way. We finally got tired of waiting and, not knowing if we pay our server or up front, I took our check to the front desk to pay. I handed the girl our check and she informed me that we pay our server. I said I would have if she had ever bothered to return to our table. She never did. The girl apologized, took our check and my payment method to process. She returned and i finished the transaction. I informed her the food was really good but the service, not so much. I told her what happened. She apologized again but didn't really seem like she was going to do something to correct the issue or inform anyone so it wouldn't happen again. I would recommend for the food and convenient location at the museum but not for...
Read moreThis is specifically geared to anyone with food allergies….. I have a later in life allergy to shellfish and I’m still pretty timid in asking for special consideration regarding my food. I just don’t feel comfortable asking but I know I have to now. When I approached the hostess stand at the front I very nervously began with, “I’m sorry, I just have a quick question. I have a shellfish allergy….” Before I could get anything else out one of the ladies at the stand interrupted with a very loud and boisterous, “Ain’t nobody going to separate your food from anybody else’s!” All of this was said while vigorously shaking her head and refusing to give me the dignity of even looking at me or acknowledging that I was standing in front of her. I was mortified. I wasn’t even going to ask that but ask, instead, what I may be able to eat off the menu safely. She didn’t even give me a chance. We ended up at a lovely restaurant down the street from the museum and the first thing they asked when we sat down before we could order was, “Does anyone at the table have any food allergies?” In an age with allergies of all kinds on the rise, this restaurant needs to do better. It’s a poor representation of everything else the museum encompasses. Even if food can’t be cooked separately, that’s fine. I get it. A little bit of grace and compassion could and should be shown though. The restaurant was almost empty when we were there. It would have only taken a minute or two to offer...
Read moreThis was my second time visiting New Orleans and knew I had to come back to this restaurant. This was my favorite place last time and it was still my favorite this time. The food and drinks are out of this world. For a smaller restaurant that exists only as an extension of a museum, this food rivals any food in New Orleans. During happy hour they offer small bits, one of which is peach bbq ribs, that is legit the best ribs I've had in my life. I dream about those ribs. Got the rosemary Riveter and the GI punch to drink and were the best drinks in New Orleans. Only drinks during the trip I ordered a second one of. For dessert, we got Beignet Fries. These were better than the café Du mont and the café Beignet's put together. They were drizzled in chocolate and raspberry.
An underrated and under-appreciated restaurant in a town with some of the best food in the world. I loved most of the meals I had in New Orleans, but this was in another ballpark. For such a quaint and quiet place, its food is of five-star quality. Even if you skip the museum, this restaurant is...
