I’ve been here several times but I think this trip may be my last. The service has gone pretty downhill. The lady at the front tried flagging me down as I left because she wanted to know about the tip. All I could say was “I’m not leaving a tip because there’s-“ and she flipped her hand in the air and turned away saying “Nevermind.” So now you guys get to hear the reasons since she didn’t want to 💕😊
Sauce station is so dirty and sticky, and they clearly aren’t washing the bowls well because there’s residue all over them. Dirty bowls are haphazardly thrown together in a rack, and you have to root around looking for a clean one. A lady asked me where I got my bowl because she thought the rack that you have to get them from was for used bowls. That’s how dirty it is. Every ladle is sticky, and some of the sauces for real have a lil spoon there instead of a ladle.
There are sides at the sauce station that won’t get refilled unless you ask. Usually they have fries, oranges, fried buns, and some kind of sweet soup as the sides but my whole time here they were empty and did not get refilled by staff. Eventually I asked the staff if there was any more oranges and soup, and then they went to the back and got some more. I had to ask twice because the first time they only came out with oranges. If you don’t ask for them to refill the sides, they don’t do it so you just assume they’re out of it.
I grab a plate of oranges and get down to eating. Get this, there’s a hair in my orange! It was hard to catch too because it’s so small but it looks like a guy’s eyebrow hair. The tongs for the oranges are cross contaminated with the ones for the seaweed salad, so your oranges might taste like seaweed.
I order lamb, they give me beef. I order lotus root, they give me tofu. Some orders just never came in general! I had to order the enoki mushrooms 4 times before I finally got them, and it was only 1 . Same experience for most of the meats.
Nobody comes to refill our water or refill the soup water as it boils away and starts burning the pot. I was there for an hour and a half and not once was the broth refilled. You ever have hot pot with the ingredients burning away? Not fun. Every other hot pot place I’ve been at has servers with the pitcher of broth to top off the pot when it gets low to that burning point. I remember they used to do that here too. Key words “used to.”
So many times I had to get up and actually walk around the restaurant looking for a staff member to ask help from. When you try to ask them gently, they act like you’re not there so you really have to talk loudly which is embarrassing enough. Then they act like they’re doing you a favor by granting your requests for basic service.
It’s crazy because they seemed to be watching my table for a tip (since we paid the bill before we sat down to eat), but once it comes to service the table needs all of a sudden they’re blind and busy.
I used to come around dinner time and in the past it wasn’t like this, although in the past I think there were different staff. I really hated this experience, as I don’t like feeling like I have to beg every time I want to be served.
Staff here have a p*ss poor attitude, especially that lady. The guys don’t seem to be as annoyed to be there as she was, but still. There were maybe 5 servers I talked to for various things, so I’d say they’re not understaffed. But to get your water refilled you need to get up and find someone to tell them about it or else they’ll leave you dry.
Find another hot pot place; there’s tons in NYC. They’re all around the same price anyway, but in the others you’ll get treated like a customer and...
Read moreNEVER have I ever experienced the WORST hot pot in my entire life. First we were seated at the table and they kept rushing us multiple times to order soup base but we were still looking at the menu. We finally order our soup base and other menu items and the server basically disappeared. One of the servers come back and ask what soup bases we order and then leaves but comes back with meat and we are still waiting for the soup base. Soup base should be the first food item that comes out. Secondly, the wifi was awful and none of the food items were ordered except for the meat through so we had to reorder. We had to wait 20 more minutes after the meat was served to get our soup bases but even after that the rest of the food never came until a server came back to ask if we had ordered anything else. None of the servers looked like they knew what they were doing except one. When the food finally there were not only extra servings of food we never ordered but also we received a plate of food that was meant for another table. One of our party members ordered rice cakes and never received it for at least 40 minutes until we asked. We asked a server for spoons for the hot pot because every other table received these spoons except for us. We asked for five of these spoons; however, not only did we receive the wrong spoons (normal soup spoons not made for hot pot), but we also only got three instead of five. Nobody comes back and refills our water the whole time until at least an hour and a half later (by the server who actually looks like he knows what he is doing). Also, one server knocked over one of our party member’s water cup and never apologized. They never gave a proper introduction or told us about any gratuity or time limit, so after two hours the server rudely drops the bill on the table without a word. Nobody gives us time checks. The customer service was terrible. We did not have a good time and were constantly stressed about getting the proper food items. How can self order ayce hot pot place have the worst customer service?? It’s worse because the servers were not even rude but just terrible at their job. I would never recommend this place and would never...
Read moreNow if you’ve never tried the Chinese version of ‘hot pot’ or BBQ-Styled-Open-Grill this is truly one of the most delicious and delightful places on planet earth (“Only in New York”) to hunker down on your foodie fantasies. Once inside the restaurant you could have up to a two hour wait depending on how many are in your party. Larger groups including families tend to get a priority call over couples or single individuals who are not grouped by more than two or three. The interior spaces are well decorated and it has a charming amusement to it. The floor layout is in fact a multilevel seating arrangement and looks quite cavernous in the main seating area like Buddha Bar in Paris. There is a bar off to one side designed for making your own special dipping sauces for grilled items, and a QR code at each grilling station for ordering directly in, from table side. All submitted orders are immediately taken and incredibly available within moments after ordering— the wait staffing is really extra-extra attentive. Super friendly. Genuinely polite and oh-so helpful meeting customers with their grilling or cooking needs throughout the meal. There is a wonderful selection of cocktail choices and Sake options, mixed appetizers, select meats, veggies, and other hot pot additives that blend perfectly with the buffet. Aside this, desserts, drinks, and other items for kids as well. How delightful is this after chowing down an entire two hours grilling seafood and other things together? Well, pretty awesome if you enjoy a smorgasbord of outstanding produce and fresh choice cut beef, lamb and chicken etc., you will love this place like no other!! It’s simply that fantastic. An excellent choice for holidays, specials occasions and birthdays too. They’re open year round. There is more than one location in the five boroughs. But primarily located only within Manhattan. A definite crowd pleaser given that popularity among the college set or local neighborhood fashionista regulars, as visibly present. Noted for its busy and high volume patronage to high table turnover, the restaurant is...
