I wanted to treat my niece and nephew to ice cream in their neighborhood after they had a tough day and used my points on classpass to do so as smoove is available on that app.
My sister got there around 7:30 and I told her she would have to wait till 7:45 for the app to send me the pick up confirmations for her to show the employees at the location so that they could begin to prepare and serve the icecreams I’d paid for via classpass.
Apparently not only did the staff at this location try to deny that the two desserts were paid for and confirmed they also were having inappropriate adult conversations at the counter while children were present. They legitimately tried to undermine my sister and say that it wasn’t possible for there to have been two orders confirmed and paid for when she had extensive proof that I’d sent her from my end. They also tried to tell her that they needed their boss to tell them via text that it was okay to release items that had already been paid for.
Truly rude, disorganized and unprofessional. Don’t participate in classpass if you don’t wish to honor purchases made via the app as valid purchases and/or train your staff accordingly.
Edited from 1 star to 4 stars: The Smoove Management team reached out to me immediately after I posted about my family’s negative experience and offered us complimentary treats equivalent in value to our initial purchase to make up for it. I really appreciated the professionalism and urgency in correcting and taking accountability for their less than stellar handling of classpass customers.
I did still feel their in shop customer service falls a little flat in terms of warmth and enthusiasm but that’s to be expected to with exceptional service and on the whole the staff member I dealt with was just fine.
The matcha bubble tea I had was a tad overly sweet so I’d probably go with 50% sweetness if I ever visited again, the kids enjoyed their ice cream and toppings. All in all a...

I arrived in chinatown to run a few errands with a friend and we noticed a new ice cream shop opened. Being huge fans of ice cream no matter the weather outside we had to check it out.
The moment you step into this store you are greeted with warm welcomes and gentle smiles from their employees. You are pretty much treated like family by staff that is eager to show you their sweet treats. Although they serve ice cream our entire experience warmed our hearts.
They have classics such as Matcha Green Tea and Vanilla (Madagascar) to more interesting flavors such as their durian (must get if you’re a fan or if you are a bit more daring), corn flakes bourbon, and pina colada. I personally loved their tea flavors (Thai, Jasmine Milk Tea, and Matcha Green Tea) as well as their Lychee Rose. This is definitely not the spot to leave with just one scoop, because you will regret it.
Besides ice cream, they make adorable and well crafted unicorn cakes that are on display in the fridge on the left as you enter. We were really tempted to get it on a whim just because it was so well made. These will make excellent birthday cakes because they’re absolutely gorgeous.
It was also important for us to see that proper precautions were taken for customers and staff especially during these times. And this shop does just that, if not more. Its evident how much care they put in designing this space so that you are comfortable knowing that you are safe during your visit. Their cute instagram barrier at the register is adorable and a creative touch that really sealed the deal for us...
Read moreMy friend and I went to Smoove Ice Cream around 4pm on a Sunday. The location is right off of Grand Street (B/D) where Stax Ice Cream used to be. They have a small seating area, and we were lucky to come at an off-time, but you have to be lucky because the area only seats 3 small parties. You can order at the counter or through a self-service kiosk.
I got a value combo with a 6oz ube boba float and a strawberry cream cheese croffle ($11.95). My friend got a 6oz strawberry cream jasmine tea boba float ($7.95), which she enjoyed. I will say that my boba float was tasty. However, I would not say that the ice cream elevated it to the next level or made it that drastically different from a normal taro slush. Also, I have seen other people's pictures where the float looks a lot prettier and insta-friendly. Both of our drinks also had a lot of ice, as another reviewer mentioned here as well. The croffle I had was also delicious. The only negative was that it was really difficult to cut. However, the croffle had a nice crisp and a sweet croissant flavor that I fully enjoyed. The cream cheese topping went well with the strawberry, and was not overly sweet.
When Stax used to be here, it used to be one of my top ice cream places in the city, and it seems like the ice cream is similar, with sweet flavors and creamy consistency. As a result, I would definitely return to Smoove to try the other flavors on the menu. While it is pricey, I think it is competitive with all the other places in Chinatown. However, I see more value in the croffle than...
