REFUSED to service us as soon as we walked in the door. Do NOT give them business, they clearly do not need it.
I understand that many people may ask to use your restroom, but we wanted to give you business so don't even try to use the restroom as an excuse for your rude behavior.
8:15pm on a Saturday. As soon as we walked in they were unfriendly. They took one look at us and immediately said our bathrooms are for customers, before we said a word. We responded that we wanted to sit down and have drinks and yes we would be using the restroom.
They then changed it to we also had to order food. Then they added not just any food on the menu but it also had to include a pie. So we went from their requirement being we needed to be patrons to we needed to order drinks, food, and a pie.
Question: Does this food rule apply to anyone? The truth is you didn't want us in your establishment, maybe because you are racist and we were a mixed race family, maybe because you don't need the money, maybe because you thought you were too good for us.....whatever the reason you REFUSED service to patrons willing to spend money.
It should be noted there was only 1 table with existing customers. Three adults with 2 kids would have taken your empty table space for about 20 minutes and spent about $50 on drinks and tip. Everyone knows that alcohol is WAYYY more...
Read moreMy five star rating is purely based on the quality of the pizza itself, which is solidly in the top tier of New York City, interesting given that as the name "Apizza" implies, this is more of a New Haven style pizza in the model of Frank Pepe. The crust is perfect, IMO. It's chewy, crispy, good bubbles with just a hint of charring. If I had one critique, it would be that there was maybe 10%-15% too much sauce in the red pies, but it leaves you some to mop up with the crust. We ordered the Pepperoni which came topped with hot honey and the Pesto Prosciutto. Both were excellent.
Skip the appetizers. The squash blossoms were under-seasoned and although the Sicilian salad scratches a nostalgic itch for anyone who grew up on pizza joint salad in the Northeast, (Creamy Italian FTW!) it doesn't feel like it should cost $13.
The other issue was that it's cash only and the ATM only lets you withdraw $40 at a time, with a merchant fee of $3.75. I assume this was a feature of the Christmas season, when I'm sure it would be drained of cash almost immediately if they let people take more than that, but it was frustrating, especially given the high fees.
Next time, I will get a pie to go and eat it out of the box in the park. Eating in is a little stressful given the crush of people. But I will definitely come again. It's a...
Read moreVisited this place after a long walk to see Dyker Heights Lights! Pizza was good.. service could be better.. seems like they’re so used to having locals that they assume new customers would know exactly what to do.. was planning to order more.. appetizers/starters.. pizza and drink and all .. but after we were seated.. we’ve been sitting for a while not given a menu..(turned out we were supposed to get it when we walked in,of course we didn’t know since it’s our first time) so after wondering what’s gonna happen, we saw the menu and took it and just decided on ordering just a pizza directly on the counter.. then we saw other customers being served water.. given plates and all that.. when our order came.. the pizza was placed in our table they realized we didn’t have plates so they gave paper plates for us 🤷🏽♀️.. so yeah..
Few weeks later, decided to give this place another try with the family.. we met the owner and was was very nice and accommodating,, this time we know more what to do and truly helped with the experience.. tried different dishes.. the zucchini flowers and pesto pizza and it was delish!! Overall way better experience than our...
