Blue Ribbon always a nice atmosphere, haven't been there in about 10 years. Thought it was time to return and see exactly what was happening after last review. Well they changed the seating around really didn't care for the bench couch seating, so I switched to a table that had chairs. For me couches are never appealing and seem to get obviously uncomfortable and dirty. Very little trendy background music which gave the restaurant a less hip feeling. Which I expected being in the Slope. Okay now for the wait staff and menu. We had a very nice waiter. But after the we ordered he became inattentive. Had to call bus boy to replenish our beverages and clear plates. This made me not want to order desert. As food their food, average, average, average! So different than what I remember. The bake clams were very poor. Not oreganata and if they truly were there it must have been their twist on them. Don't order them! I had the ribs, cooked nicely, a little to fatty and the presentation was lack luster. I asked for sauce on side instead of on ribs, he didn't think it could be done. Everything else is additional I'm assuming because I only had the ribs and the bread that was on the table. No other option where offered to me, by the server, terrible. Also ordered a Piaya dish, it was nice Asked how large was the dish and he suggested the half order, which was very nice of him. Not an over abundance of rice, could have used a little more seafood, but overall it was okay. Nothing to jump up and down about. What I found odd was the server did not suggestion a wine and they did not feature a wine special for the night. A little wine tasting knowing that a customer could have been sold a nice bottle would have been fun. I give Blue Ribbon and average of 3 stars. It was a night out on a holiday weekend, average food, uninterested staff and the decor needs a little boost, so important! Hit me up on my reivews, you can follow me on FB at...
Read moreWe were gifted the gluten free fried chicken for four via Goldbelly and since we loved it so much, I had to put this review up on Google. What can I say but WOW! Being gluten intolerant has gotten more and more delicious as the years go on but this was one of those meals that I had to call to absolutely double check because it was that good. The directions, likely printed once for all boxes, happened to say “contains wheat” (which was our only constructive criticism) and along with the flavor, texture, experience all being so familiar, I literally freaked that they sent us the wrong box. Folks, they did not. It was just that good! Gifted to us by a family member after we survived 3 major surgeries on my torso in 35 days time, (I say we because my partner was there every step of the way. Between learning I have an anaphylactic response to Levaquin by having anaphylaxis and even argued his way in to sleeping on a camping pad by my bed after my first negative reaction to anesthesia post surgery two, he was every bit a part of this journey) this was the perfect gift and a most memorable set of meals we will remember for a lifetime. We can’t wait until I’m strong enough to go in person to get the full experience! Thank you, chefs! You truly have no idea how much this meant to us ♥️ (please excuse our paper bowls! This food deserves fine China but with only one of us holding up the household, we’re taking all the shortcuts we can...
Read moreWe have not been to this place in a long time and had Christmas Eve reservations in their outdoor section. I was a bit worried but I feel we actually lucked out. The outdoor section was very well heated and a lot more private and less noisy than in the very busy restaurant. My wife is sensitive to heat radiators as they dry out her eyes and the host was super accommodating and turned off our above head heater for us.
For appetizers we ordered the french onion soup, cheese fondu, and escargot. And of course they provided their amazing fresh bread which is still one of the best bread we've had. The outside crust is light and delicate and the inside is moist and soft. The onion soup was not too salty and perfect and the escargot were plump and large, don't normally see them this big in the US. The fondue was the only weak appetizer.
For mains we ordered the paella and the duck breast, my friend also ordered the duck as well. Both were incredible. The only negative on the paella was the sausage was not to our taste but everything else was what we wanted in paella. Duck breast can be tough and chewy if not cooked right, but their's was perfect. Amd the paired sauce was just perfect.
For desert we had the creme brulee and their chocolate bruno. Both were excellent.
The waiter and host were so friendly and awesome. They went out of their way to make us comfortable and happy with our...
