COOL CAFE ! My wife and I were totally enjoying our recent 8 day vacation in Manhattan, NewYork. On Wednesday, Sept 29th we had a huge day seeing so many neat things on our bucket list. After visiting Electric Lady Studios ( Jimi Hendrix ) in Greenwich Village we decided to look for a place to grab some lunch and to our utter ( and happy ) surprise a Bluestone Lane Cafe appeared in front of us at midday. DONE DEAL ! Because we had already had breakfast or lunch at 2 of their other locations closer to our hotel on Broadway...and LOVED EVERYTHING ! This cafe had a cute & eclectic Greenwich Village vibe which seemed to fit the neighborhood perfectly. There was a large outside dining area but it was a bit windy so we chose to sit inside the cosy interior. A very energetic young female server named Alyssa looked after us when we ordered 1 x Magic ( their name for a Cortado ) and 1 x Spiced Chicken Wrap to share. My Magic came out pretty fast and tasted great. Not too long after our huge Spiced Chicken Wrap with some hand cut Fries arrived courtesy of Alyssa. We were splitting and one half each was more than enough for lunch. And just like the other 2 locations we had tried....the coffee and food here was great ! We left and walked a while until we ran into a record store that we knew opened at midday. Not much to tell but we did look in a couple more record stores nearby and it was the same story...all the good stuff was gone or overpriced ! Greenwich Village was this magical place back in the 50's, 60's & early 70's I used to read about when I young...where Jimi Hendrix, Joni Mitchell, Maria Muldaur, The Lovin' Spoonful, The Velvet Underground and many more used to parade their musical talents. And beat poets / writers like Jack Kerouac, Allen Ginsberg and others used to inspire people with their eclectic views on many aspects of society. TIMES HAVE CHANGED but you can still get a great coffee at this...
Read morePersonally, I didn't have any food. However, my friends enjoyed their food and no problems were present. One problem happened. My friend wanted a smoothie but decided not to order it. Soon enough, Sebastian the "supervisor" came back with it. On to ambiance. It was good, and the people were having a fun time. Our problems with Sebastian the supervisor continued after we got our bill. The order came out to 32.66$. We asked to split the bill politely, but Sebastian was very rude about it and refused us multiple times. We explained how to do it and asked to speak with the manager, but Sebastian kept saying he was the supervisor. After about 10 minutes, he finally told us we could split the bill. One friend got a sandwich that cost 18.50 after we split the bill. The other person who paid got overcharged. He paid for the tip fully, and the other person who paid got charged nothing in terms of tip. His total for 2 sides came out to 15 DOLLARS. So we were very confused at how this could happen. The math didn't add up. Also in the end, he charged us more than what the original bill was worth. Two of us went back in to complain and get a partial refund, but Sebastian the supervisor said no. He ruined this experience for us because of his stubbornness. Overall, everything but the service was fine. The service is the main reason I will not...
Read moreI visited Bluestone Cafe @ 55 Greenwich Ave. last Saturday. Initially, I was sitting in the front room, then I decided I would like to sit in the back room. I asked Andre, a Bluestone's teammate, if I could move to the back room. He gladly agreed to it, not knowing the back room was not open to the customers at the time. After I settled in the back room, the manager politely informed me that the back room was not open. Andre came in at the perfect timing and said to his manager, “ She is nice.” And just like that, I was able to stay in the back room all by myself and enjoyed my Athletes burrito and iced latte. Andre would come in to the room to check in on me to make sure I had everything I needed. We had a brief yet delightful conversation when I learned about him and his name. No visit to Bluestone Lane can be considered “completed” without banana bread, so I ordered one. As attentive as Andre was, he brought my banana bread with a side of ice cream - on the house! It was such a great and magical experience! You see, unbeknown to Andre, Bluestone Lane @55 Greenwich has a special place in my heart. I have not visited it for a long time, but last Saturday I decided to visit it, and the experience just brought everything to a full circle. Thank you, Andre, for your kindness. And thank you Bluesyone Lane@...
