Sogno Toscano Market & Wine Bar — Restaurant in New York

Just… what a disappointing experience. I booked a lunch here for my birthday and I was looking forward to my reservation for weeks. I made sure to stop by the restaurant and leave my name and details to reserve a table outside, was confirmed that (weather permitting) my table would be outside.

Upon arrival, we were met with a coarse and impatient hostess who didn’t seem at all to understand basic customer service. We were sat inside and told when a table outside opened we would be able to move. After 30 minutes, I reexplained the situation and she ignored me and I had to approach her multiple times in order to get some kind of reaction. She kept waving me away as if I were an inconvenience. The worst came at the 45 minute wait mark, at which point we were still waiting out to order main courses for the table outside. A family of 4 left the table outside and our hostess offered it to people who had just walked in. At this point I was extremely frustrated and asked her why they had been given priority, and she simply got flustered and couldn’t answer. Frankly, she should be fired from her job.

Saddest of all, nothing was done to remedy the situation. My mother approached her and explained it was my birthday - and despite the poor service, nothing was offered to compensate. Even the most mid level restaurant will stick a candle in an ice cream scoop when alerted there’s a birthday event (which I had also specified in my online reservation, when I went in person to secure my table outside, and the day of). But to offer terrible and disappointing service and on top of that not take a single measure of action to ensure a happy customer is where I draw the line. It was an unpleasant and souring experience for my family and friends and we will not be returning.

What an experience. I had needed a place to work from in the area and while a life long NY’er I always lived on the East Side. Sad I know . In any case my friend recommended a few places in the area and I decided to try Sogno Toscano.

I am very glad for the recommendation and for the experience. I found a table right by the window and it is obviously not like your normal coffee shop conworking space it is a market and wine bar. I was like am I going to be that guy on his laptop working while all these other people are having a great time ?

That was all brushed aside when the manager came up to me and asked me what I wanted. I definitely wanted breakfast food as it was so cold but also the pasta looked amazing . Got the omelet and a latte and a full blown bottle of Pelligrino 😆 I was amazed when the latte was poured in a wine glass. I am a bit out of the loop on the coffee scene but this was something , great espresso just right . Very cool vibe and good people . I met a wonderful lady who was visiting her daughter we talked all things Atlanta and food and NY. Then there was a couple from actual Tuscany , I asked them how the food compared and we shared stories a bit with the language barrier but it was amazing . Would come back I hope to be a quasi regular. I imagine it would be a great spot for a date or special occasion as well. I got very little work done but I was very relaxed afterwards....
